A Day in the Life of the Sun

A loud noise rings in my ears
I start to roll over but think better of it
I’m supposed to get an early start today
So I take my place in the sky, and do what I do best
Shine
Shine until I can shine no more
It’s not an easy job illuminating all the successes and failures
Of a day
But I’m always there
I was shining when you took your first step
And I’ll be shining when you take your last.

Sometimes I wish I could visit this World I bring light to
But I’ve seen too much
Seen the earth and the people that live there
The murderers and the thieves
The sinners and the sins they commit
Remorseless day after day
With no change and no progress.
Yes, I‘ve certainly seen too much.

A loud noise rings in my ears
I awake to a large mob and remember
I’m supposed to get an early start today
So I prepare to take my place in the sky, and do what I do best
Die
Die until after three days I can die no more
It’s not an easy job paying for all the successes and failures
Of a life
But I’m always there
I was shining long before you took your first step
And I’ll be shining long after you take your last.

Sometimes I wish I could come down from this cross
But I’ve seen too much
Seen the earth and the people that I created
Turn into murderers and thieves
The sinners and the sins they commit
Remorseless day after day
With no change and no progress.
Yes, I‘ve certainly seen too much.
