Post-Thanksgiving Blues

Children have gone, house settling down; sitting and sifting through memories found. How quickly life passes--a grandma now I wish I could reverse the clock somehow. I didn't know how quickly they would grow into their own lives--a world I don't know. November 28, 2021 Bite Size Poem No. 28 Poetry Contest Sponsor: Line Gauthier First Place!

funny we long for just a minute of solitude in the midst of the child-rearing years and then we have too much of it -- Each season its gifts -- each season its sorrows :)

Ah, P.S. ~ isn't that the truth! But I would still like to try it all over ~ and, of course, that would entail becoming younger :) Thanks for commenting!

Wonderfully stated Ann! Before we know it our children are grown with precious families of their own. Reminds me of the song Turn Around. I love your last line - "a world I don't know." Congratulations on your win. Hope your floor went in smoothly. We are making progress. Blessings.

Hi Sam, Although I don't care for the dark color, my sons did an excellent job. It looks great! Good luck with the rest of your reconstruction! I remember Turn Around - Burl Ives sang it. Very poignant. Holidays are nostalgic times, I think. Blessings to you, Sam.

Amazing how we blink and poof...just like that life changes, people have grown...and so have we. Lovely, Ann. Congratulations on your 1st place win! Hugs Charlie

You're right~it was poof. Working, helping them grow, building memories, time stealing years when we weren't looking :) Thanks for your comments, Charlie!

Thank you, Mystic Rose. It was a bittersweet time ~ the first we've all been together in years. They all live in NM, but busy with life. They call and my oldest came without wife twice before Thanksgiving. That was wonderful. Take care :)

ahh, I see your Thanksgiving was like mine, being with relatives you have not been together with in a long time (answering your reply to my comment below)

Yes, a great time, but nostalgic, too. Holidays are like that. I wrote something to go with Cats and then read the directions (for the musical contest). Cats isn't listed . I need to learn to read directions!! Take care :)

Thank you, Andrea. If not, I hope it makes the cut :) My sons, wives and I were together for the first Thanksgiving in many years. It was so wonderful and now so quiet ~ it left me sad. It is true ~ not easy to say goodbye. Thanks so much for your kind comments.

Hi Harry!~ Thanks for your comments! For three days the house rang with noise and laughter and now silence. Just me talking to my dogs :) Well, that's life as we stumble through age. I hope your holidays are happy!

Back in my day, children were seen but not heard; now we need children to tell us how things work. My childhood was spent learning how to survive whereas children today must learn how to recharge their phone. Luckily, they are happy in their world! Aloha!

Quite true, as they seem to think common courtesies are a sign of weakness . . . .

So very true. In the process, they've forgotten small things like please and thank you, and they probably don't know how to survive. Before seen and not heard came child labor in factories so maybe we've made progress after all. Anyhow, happy holidays and aloha.

So very good, Ann. Yes, we grow old, children grow up, leave, and with their own family. We see them once in a while, but try to stay out of their lives so they can live in theirs.

I have, haven't I :) The thing is, it has been empty for a long time so I don't know why it hit me this year. Maybe because we were all together for a change. Hope you had a good one!

Thanks, Michelle. Don't know why I'm so sad. Even my dogs are depressed :) It was a fun three days. I hope you had a nice holiday. Sometimes holidays hold too many memories. I guess that's it. Take care.
