It was a tedious trek down the hill. Sky shrouded in rain clouds was in utter DARKNESS. Knowing I won’t reach home without getting wet, Looked for a shelter, feeling imminent threat. Seeing a small building at a DESCENDING slope, I began WALKING into it and thanked God for the shelter. I waited there for the downpour to subside. An unusual GLOOM was building up, As I saw SILHOUETTES moving around. Soon I saw a tall figure by my side A CREEPY sensation ran across me Feeling great DREAD, I tried to run But he came closer to me and smiled Wow! He looked so familiar. I had seen him before, but couldn’t identify. When I stood confused and somewhat puzzled, He asked me in gentle tones; “Don’t you remember me, a friend to your father? I had been once LIVING opposite to your house” He sounded meek and OPEN that set my mind at peace And I chided myself for my fickleness. He came and sat by my side and in better light, I recognized him He had been our neighbour for some time But.........! Died years ago in a road accident! Feeling a sudden black out, I lost consciousness When I opened my eyes, he was gone I knew I was in a haunted house….! I took to heels braving the pouring rain… It was a HALLOWEEN night!

This is truly creepy Valsa - the unexplainable eerie of Halloween has been permanently captured in your words! This gave me chills as you unraveled and your tale of dread unfolded in your well chosen words and images. Quite a story in the best image of fright night tales. Best wishes for the contest. Blessings!

Superb tale. All the ingredients of a spooky tale: rain shelter and a ghost. You are a great poet, dear Valsa.
