Quote Left 'In the bad old days reference to Blacks/women/Jews/others were in negative language which perpetuated poor treatment/ abuse/ exploitation of these people. Animals have suffered more from negative language stereotyping than all the others, and demeans them so constantly that they created an environment that allows all sorts of cruelties, many too horrendous to describe! An animal is 'it' instead of 'he' or 'she', this perpetuates our view of them as 'things' rather than individuals and is a major first step towards cutting them up for meat and leather, testing drugs/cosmetics/ household products on their bodies, and tearing off their coats for furs!!! Those who have pets are referred to as 'owners' rather than guardians/care givers/companions, reinforcing the idea that they are property much as slaves were considered property. Let's avoid these references: Dirty rat; filthy pig; acting like an ass; dirty dog; she's a bitch; ugly duckling; there's more than one way to skin a cat; behaving like an animal; making a monkey out of someone; killing 2 birds with one stone; working like a horse, you're chicken ... There are many more! Please think before uttering them and tell others. Thank you!' Quote Right
Quote Left Beasts in their major freedom Slumber in peace tonight. Quote Right
Quote Left Let me tell you a story. The day after Columbine, I was interviewed for the Tom Brokaw news program. The reporter had been assigned a theory and was seeking sound bites to support it. Wouldn't you say, she asked, that killings like this are influenced by violent movies? No, I said, I wouldn't say that. But what about 'Basketball Diaries'? She asked. Doesn't that have a scene of a boy walking into a school with a machine gun? The obscure 1995 Leonardo Di Caprio movie did indeed have a brief fantasy scene of that nature, I said, but the movie failed at the box office, and it's unlikely the Columbine killers saw it. The reporter looked disappointed, so I offered her my theory. Events like this, I said, if they are influenced by anything, are influenced by news programs like your own. When an unbalanced kid walks into a school and starts shooting, it becomes a major media event. Cable news drops ordinary programming and goes around the clock with it. The story is assigned a logo and a theme song; These two kids were packaged as the Trench Coat Mafia. The message is clear to other disturbed kids around the country: If I shoot up my school, I can be famous. The TV will talk about nothing else but me. Experts will try to figure out what I was thinking. The kids and teachers at school will see they shouldn't have messed with me. I'll go out in a blaze of glory. Quote Right
Quote Left All major religious traditions carry basically the same message, that is love, compassion and forgiveness the important thing is they should be part of our daily lives. Quote Right
Quote Left The common good of a collective -- a race, a class, a state -- was the claim and justification of every tyranny ever established over men. Every major horror of history was committed in the name of an altruistic motive. Has any act of selfishness ever equaled the carnage perpetrated by disciples of altruism? Does the fault lie in men's hypocrisy or in the nature of the principle? The most dreadful butchers were the most sincere. The believed in the perfect society reached through the guillotine and the firing squad. Nobody questioned their right to murder since they were murdering for an altruistic purpose. It was accepted that man must be sacrificed for other men. Actors change, but the course of the tragedy remains the same. A humanitarian who starts with the declarations of love for mankind and ends with a sea of blood. It goes on and will go on so long as men believe that an action is good if it is unselfish. That permits the altruist to act and forces his victims to bear it. The leaders of collectivist movements ask nothing of themselves. But observe the results. Quote Right
Quote Left The clubs voted overwhelmingly in favor of the World Baseball Classic. It also has the full support of our partners, the Major League Baseball Players Association and the International Baseball Federation. The Clubs, the MLBPA and the IBAF all realize that the goal of the tournament -- to grow the game and to increase interest in the sport worldwide -- is in the long-term best interests of the game. Quote Left When I was a small boy growing up in Kansas, a friend of mine and I went fishing and as we sat there in the warmth of a summer afternoon on a riverbank we talked about what we wanted to do when we grew up. I told him that I wanted to be a real major-league baseball player, a genuine professional like Honus Wagner. My friend said that he'd like to be President of the United States. Neither of us got our wish. Quote Right
Quote Left I have a suggestion that I think would help fight serious crime. Signs. There are lots of signs for minor infractions: No Smoking, Stay Off the Grass, Keep Out, and they seem to work fairly well. I think we should also have signs for major crimes: Murder Strictly Prohibited, NO Raping People, Thank You for Not Kidnapping Anyone. It's certainly worth a try. I'm convinced Watergate would never have happened if there had just been a sign in the Oval Office that said, Malfeasance of Office Is Strictly Against the Law, or Thank You for Not Undermining the Constitution. Quote Left There's a lot of talent around the world. Anybody playing major league baseball, you look to your left there might be a player from Korea, you look to your right there might be a player from the Dominican Republic or Mexico. Quote Right
Quote Left I was raised on a dairy farm and ate plenty of meat and eggs until about twenty years ago. I started doing nutritional research, and a decade or so after that my family made some major dietary changes. I'm just paying attention to what the data are telling me. The scientific evidence came first. Quote Right
Quote Left The decrease in pervasive attacks in 2005 is counter-intuitive to what society at large believes is a major threat to their personal data. IBM believes that the environment has shifted - with increased security protection on most systems and stiffer penalties, we are seeing organized, committed, and tenacious profiteers enter this space. This means that attacks will be more targeted and potentially damaging. Organizations around the world - from the public and private sectors - must move quickly and work together to address this growing challenge. Quote Right
Quote Left Major league baseball has asked its players to stop tossing baseballs into the stands during games, because they say fans fight over them and they get hurt. In fact, the Florida Marlins said that's why they never hit any home runs. It's a safety issue. Quote Right
Quote Left Personally, I'm in favor of democracy, which means that the central institutions of society have to be under popular control. Now, under capitalism, we can't have democracy by definition. Capitalism is a system in which the central institutions of society are in principle under autocratic control. Thus, a corporation or an industry is, if we were to think of it in political terms, fascist that is, it has tight control at the top and strict obedience has to be establishedat every level--there's little bargaining, a little give and take, but the line of authority is perfectly straightforward. Just as I'm opposed to political fascism, I'm opposed to economic fascism. I think that until the major institutions of society are under the popular control of participants and communities, it's pointless to talk about democracy. Quote Right
Quote Left Platt High School is a very good and very well-coached basketball team. For our kids to stay with them for as long as they did is a major accomplishment for them and something to look forward to for next year. Quote Right
Quote Left For the ordinary man is passive. Within a narrow circle (home life, and perhaps the trade unions or local politics) he feels himself master of his fate, but against major events he is as helpless as against the elements. So far from endeavouring to influence the future, he simply lies down and lets things happen to him. Quote Right

Quote Left It doesn't require any particular bravery to stand on the floor of the Senate and urge our boys in Vietnam to fight harder, and if this war mushrooms into a major conflict and a hundred thousand young Americans are killed, it won't be U. S. Senators who die. It will be American soldiers who are too young to qualify for the senate. Quote Right
Quote Left There are two main human sins from which all the others derive: impatience and indolence. It was because of impatience that they were expelled from Paradise, it is because of indolence that they do not return. Yet perhaps there is only one major sin: impatience. Because of impatience they were expelled, because of impatience they do not return. Quote Right
Quote Left He sacrificed a lot, but those sacrifices are paying off. Ryan was never handed anything except a healthy body and a pitching arm. He dreamed about being a Major League ball player. He realized those dreams with lots of hard work and dedication. Quote Right
Quote Left The best introduction by far to representation of the human figure in art. The Nude is a beautifully written work of sophisticated connoisseurship that analyzes art in its own terms rather than imposing strident, politicized categories on it. It outlines the major body types, male and female, in Western art and, via a wealth of illustrations, trains the reader's eye to detect and evaluate proportion. This book reveres art Quote Right
Quote Left I was slightly disappointed, but also encouraged, because I put myself in position to win a major, which is all even Tiger says he tries to do. Quote Right
Quote Left Over the years your bodies become walking autobiographies, telling friends and strangers alike of the minor and major stresses of your lives. Quote Right
Quote Left The common dogma of fundamentalists is fear of modern knowledge, inability to cope with the fast change in a scientific-technological society, and the real breakdown in apparent moral order in recent years.... That is why hate is the major fuel, fear is the cement of the movement, and superstitious ignorance is the best defence against the dangerous new knowledge. ... When you bring up arguments that cast serious doubts on their cherished beliefs you are not simply making a rhetorical point, you are threatening their whole Universe and their immortality. That provokes anger and quite frequently violence. ... Unfortunately you cannot reason with them and you even risk violence in confronting them. Their numbers will decline only when society stabilizes, and adapts to modernity. Quote Right
Quote Left It's nice starting off the year with the checklist not as long to get ready for Augusta than it was last year when I had to make some major changes. This year it is just fine-tuning which is great. Quote Right
Quote Left If in the last few years you haven't discarded a major opinion or acquired a new one, check your pulse, you may be dead. Quote Right
Quote Left It's the oldest franchise in Major League Baseball. For anybody to get that Opening Day start, it's an honor. But I'm going to go out and get ready for the season, build up some innings and get my arm in shape this spring. Quote Right
Quote Left A good novel is an indivisible sum; every scene, sequence and passage of a good novel has to involve, contribute to and advance all three of its major attributes: theme, plot, characterization. Quote Right
Quote Left Major religions are examples of 'noble lies' aimed at uplifting human stature. Quote Right
Quote Left I've told them, it's their team. Warren has shown signs of being a major factor. He had success when the teams weren't big, strong and physical. If he's going to have a great senior year, he needs to get his legs stronger, become more physical and make a commitment in the weight room. And he probably needs to get in the gym and take extra jump shots to be a consistent pick-and-pop guy. Quote Right

Quote Left You don’t know how it feels not being part of your broken majority. Still when you fall i will feast on your carcass alone. One by one. Quote Right
Quote Left The vast majority of us were raised to believe in some type of a greater good ; whether that being God, or any other faith to follow. Yet it seems the differences would ultimately lead to conflict, where the strength of fellowship would reach out with an overpowering embrace. This consolidation then leads to eventual dilation, where outlying extremes ferment towards a secular brew. Quote Right

Quote Right

Quote Left And apart from people, one other major thing that restrains us is our Passion, Purpose, Dream, Aspirations or Goal all wrapped up in one. The Picture of our future that we hold in our head censors what we do, where we go, what we listen to, what we view, what we read, the people we associate with, how we spend our time, what we eat or drink and every other decision. You see, the pursuit of purpose alone gives enormous restriction, this is how our life gets definition, not the Dictionary Quote Right
Quote Left One major lie the Devil gives to us is the impression that restrictions are bad, inconsiderate, and contrary to what is good for us. Honestly, it is a Lie. The truth is, Restrictions are set up by People that Love us, to Keep us from destruction and save us from their own bad experiences. Quote Right
Quote Left I'm not ok over a generation that's self destructing and I'm not ok over how easily accessible guns are to youngsters and I'm not ok that 1 out of 4 of us youngsters suffers from some major mood disorder and I'm not ok that those who don't seek help or feel like the health or educational system has failed them act irrationally and hurt themselves or somebody else and the fact that this keeps happening year after year after year has to stop Quote Right
Quote Left I am increasingly sensitized by the inability of the human majority. The dreams dreamed of by this majority are immensely poorer than reality. When we dream for the future, we always see it develop under a monotonous and weak system, not innovative. So it is not surprising that in the next hundred years, with a sequence of at least three destructive moments per se: at first the human spirit, successful, live on the street, in prison and in the newspapers. Quote Right
