Burning

Hear the roaring of the wind
Hear the screaming of the alarm
Jump out as you burn
Scream when you see the glass break
The power the fire shows making you watch
So in a moment of weakness you sit there
Watching the embers grow into a monster all in their own
Choking in the smoky air
Gasping for anything that is clean
Hear the cries of the children weeping for their mother to come back
Watch as it crumbles the ground
Watch as your life falls to ash around your feet
Feel the heat of the flames that devour anything in its past
Cradle the youngest in your arms whispering it will be ok
In that moment you hurt
Maybe you are done
Maybe it is too much to go on.
You just want to sleep
You are slipping away
You can feel the heartbreaking truth
You are alone even being surrounded by people
Nothing will be the same

Kiersten, Welcome to Poetry soup, I hope you enjoy the community. Here, you will find friendly poets who enjoy supporting one another. I myself, enjoy reading and commenting those who want to be read. The only time I give constructive criticism is when a poet desires it. However, if for some reason the poem is not my field I will guide you to someone who is more qualified than I. Stop by and read one of my poems if you like. My poems are not perfect, but I have a feeling you might like one. I encourage you to check out the contest page and read to receive comments. Tell me a little about your poetic skills if you like. It will be my pleasure to follow and read every poem you post from here on :) We are Lucky To Have you. Your New Poet Friend @-> LINDA <-@
