Wounded

The lines in between fade away
And I’m left standing in gray.
I cannot, dare not, go back;
Yet, I cannot find my way forward.
If I give up this fight
I will surely lose you from sight.
I cannot, dare not, say good bye;
You are the one I live for.

But my blood continues to drain
Leaving my fingers red-stained.
I cannot, dare not, let go;
But my fingers are cold, numb.

Your face is what I long to see,
What I want my last memory to be.
I cannot, dare not, look away;
Even as a siren splits the night.

I see the hope in your eyes
As my heart slowly dies.
I cannot, dare not…
