The Forest

The crows continue to fly over the once sunlit meadow,
and the trees of my youth stand tall and proud as I once did,
nature will not give up the battle against these modern times,
I’m suffocated by the smog which slowly slaughters the land,
blurring my memories of the past brings tears to the eyes,
this is not the land I remember,
change is as inevitable as the sunrise,
but hope is dying within me as I see the land in its demise,
the cries and shouts of the ignorant blanket the beautiful,
as man has officially sold the world,
the sound of laughter and joy has been torn away for fumes and profit,
this is not the land I remember,
serene lakes are now property for the rich to be seen for the fortunate,
creation is now possessed by the created for its own pleasure,
the ground cracks under my feet like the passion I once preserved,
embracing the minute clean of air I can discover, clears my thoughts ,
guilt grips me as I signed on the dotted line for this obliteration,
this is not the land I remember,
stars become my guide to leave this cauldron of remorse,
the wind and swaying of the leaves sound like the hiss and hatred I deserve,
nature must now find a new home,
I decide to become the earth of the dying forest,
as this is not the land I remember.
