Catch

My beautiful little boy just received
a 3rd strike life sentence

Catch

I wish I could play catch with my son
The way I used to do
It was on a bright sunny day
No happier time I knew

Back and forth the ball would fly
With the pop of the mitt
We also played a secret game
Who would first drop it

The happy little golden boy back then
He was my joy and pride
As he caught the ball and tossed it back
My pleasure I could not hide

With the time that has passed now
As hope turned to despair
I find refuge in my God and remember
My boy with the golden hair

Trials and tribulations have crossed
Both our Earthly paths
The pains we both endured so far
Surely will not last

I pray to God and hope the best
With heavenly certainty
We’ll play catch in glorious days
For all eternity
