A pack of cigarettes cost 15¢ 
those were the days
I’m not lying
I remember

my first flight
everything was different
I could see the back yard
the trail to the woods

under the baby robins 
mouths wide open
mother flitting back and forth
back and forth

across miles of picket fence 
wrapped around the shoreline
I brought her a cherry coke 
she let out a secret
