Storm Coming

Red sky streams through the clouds
Rain lingers on new leaves
Clinging until its weight drops
Smashes into the hard ground .
Water runs along the tiny trails in the mud
Worms stir to the lap of the tide
Birds sit expectantly awaiting the feast.

The sweet smell of the meadow wafts on the breeze
All charged with the storm that approaches
The corn rustles as the wind caresses its limbs
The field mice snuggle together, warm and soft

The sky darkens the clouds roll in thick and black
Thunder rumbles through them shouting its arrival
Quite now…. waiting for the flashing forks
Blinding light .. A spark.
The fire turns the sky red.

Jackie, I like this weather related poem. You have brought us along to see the changes brought on by the storm. I particularly like the field mice snuggling bit Look for my poem on the weather subject with a bit of drama mixed in.
