Just One Kiss

Agonizing anticipation
Just waiting and longing
Tantalizing and mesmerizing
Why must you keep me waiting
Teasing and empty promises of pleasing
I'm dying!
Yes, I'm dying of thirst
Quench me! I'm impatiently waiting for that sweet taste of nectar
Soft, wet and oh so delicious
No, no, not this time
Yes!
The time is now, the place is here
Miss Reality has shown her sun lit face
An encounter then embrace of the chilvarous kind
Delectable and gratifying
Give me more! Give me more!
Don't stop! Please! Just don't stop!

Saggin'

No belt and a pair of boxers underneath
Coolin', stylin', and profilin' with a fresh new
pair of kicks on the feet

Saggin', draggin', loose and not together
Constantly pullin' and tuggin'....just straighten
them up or take them off brother

Swagga! Not! Just draggin' and saggin' with major
attitude
Belts are like beepers, totally obsolete, brotha'
looking like he got something to prove

A fashion statement of diminutive proportions,
I mean really?
Just a fresh pair of sneakers, a pair of pants that
don't fit and a white tee

But what is looming as great as God's blue sky is
"tude", that's right, major, major "tude"!
Mean muggin', adrenaline flowing, and stayed on high
Come on man! Find some quiet and let go. I mean, really
dude!?

Let him tell it, there is nothing wrong with his gait
He can't see, 'cause if he could he
would even say it's not straight

The ticket is straightening up the spine and getting
inline to move forward
And maybe, just maybe he has something to prove.
'Cause as long as he walks around saggin', he will be
viewed as saggin' spelled backward

Antagonist

You appear in my sleep like Freddy to dissolve my dreams

You pose as kryptonite to my Superman
If we were a movie you would be the villain and of course, I would be the hero

Yes!

A minuscule Mr. McGhee to my Incredible Hulk

You faintly appear as a STOP sign when my light
shines a vibrant green

GO!

Yes, I am going like a freight train in the middle of the night
Steadfastly plodding my course of destiny toward that glorious morning light

A diamond in the rough, a once dull surface is now shining brightly

Keep the reel rolling as the plot thickens
Oh yes! I'm writing my masterpiece line by line just call me Mr. Dickens

As my character effortlessly aggrandizes
There you are cowardly lurking and wishing for my demise

But like the mighty 'Phoenix' out of ashes, I RISE!
No surprise! For it is true, I rise. Yes, I RISE!

Off the Shelf

I've been sitting up here day after day and months on end, and please, let's not talk about years
I watch you stare at me when you think I'm unaware. I see you vacillate between life's mundane and big BEYOUTIFUL me, and oh how I cringe when you buckle to those artificial fears

This old, stale, dust has covered me, concealing my illustrious shine
Please know that I am forever in your heart and indelibly in that BEYOUTIFUL mind

You were made imperfectly but you have been so faithful
I've seen your long nights and slow days. Oh my! What we can and should be is so bountiful

It is no accident that I was born in your heart and aggrandized in your mind
Come on now, take me off this shelf and clean me up, the world is waiting, let's get in line

The bumps, accidents, detours, and road construction along the way enticed you to put me back on this damn shelf
Sure we have had to remap a time or two or three. But this journey must continue, we have our help

I see the cuts, scrapes, bruises, mental anguish, pain, and frustration you bear
But you're still standing, so take me off this shelf, and let's get there

I'm still waitin'! But don't make me wait much longer
It's time to eat, let's feed this born hunger

Poof! Poof!

Midnight Run

Rising while others are falling fast asleep
Should I go? Now that ain't even a question 'cause baby girl gotta eat

And so does my wife, and I
Gotta go! Yes, gotta make that run just so we can get by

Dreams! Sweet dreams of the future both near and far
Reaching earnestly yet they're like a distant fading star

Running to punch someone else's clock, now this ain't ever made no man rich
I know it but I haven't found it, yes, that good 'ol niche

Running, running, running but to where?
Just trying to stay focused on that distant star as I persevere

SLOW DOWN! I say slow down 'cause what's gon' be, gon' be!
Every time I say this, I quickly remember that the car note is a month behind and the cupboards are empty

Running! Running into the night and days
Baby needs a new pair of shoes and still no pay raise

Lord! Being caught in this whirlwind makes me wanna holla'
Running, just running to make that mighty dollar

God knows I've been struggling to make these old ends meet. I've moved slow and fast
Don't know Lord, just don't know how long my energy gon' last

1959

A super seismic year
Eargasmically one to revere

Sweet pulsating sounds
Bebop starting to slow down

Yes! A new, a brand new, from an "OLD"
A new form that is undefined but it feels good to the soul

A new direction that's unclear
Improvisation is supreme with creativity filling the atmosphere

1959
A year so divine
One of a kind
Built to stand the test of time

Feeling "Kinda Blue", so I'm gonna take some "Time Out"
Miles and Brubeck delivering now fans beginning to see what this is all about

Oh, yeah! "Mingus Ah Um"
"The Shape of Jazz to Come"

Charles and Ornette standing tall, too
Jazzing on a musical flight to a "New"

Liftoff to the 'Birth of Cool'
Flying high and jazzing through music's vestibule

Then there is mighty 'Mongo' and sweet n savory 'Sabroso'
Santamaria serving zesty flavors to enliven the palate which made it hard to say no

Yes!

1959
A year so divine
One of a kind
Built to stand the test of time

The Other Day

I went down by the river
just the other day
I sat on my favorite granite
as I gently caressed a kyanite
I listened to white rushers
splash against steel grey rocks
I graciously engulfed the refreshing
mist from below

Now,

Deep,

Deep inhalations

Then restorative exhalations

A peaceful calm is found
A radiant ray coyly appeared
through the pines
Now sweet melodies of Georgia
are on my mind

Cycles

A cool caliginous
night
Crickets in their abode
talking
A desolate street with no
lights
A doddering man
balking

Soon dusk kisses
dawn
Birds are out
chirping
Sun is shining and the curtain
of night has drawn
The exuberance of girls
playing
