Down Sides of Being a Third Culture Kid

She always felt alone.
Everyone around her would come and go
(With exception to family)
She grew up without a constant rock
Without a permanent place she called home.
It’s the life she had to live being a third culture kid
Yet she would trade it all
to be a part of a permanent community.
She would trade it all to make life long friends
Instead of losing them
Maybe then all her Anxiety
Depression
Fears
And pain would vanish
She never belonged anywhere fully
She was always to “Asian” to be classified as Danish
But too “American” to be accepted as a Filipina
She would trade her vast experiences
Of moving and traveling
Just to feel like she belongs somewhere
People coming and going
Has led her to develop a fear of opening up
She knows deep down that she will lose them again
So why does she still try?

Smile

A smile can be decieving
It could mean happiness
Or a wall you set up
That way no one can see
The pain you felt
When he left you with nothing

A smile could show
The rush you had with him
Or a mask you wear
after he abused you

Death Do Us Part

Her mind drew blank
She didn't know what to do
She never did in these situations

Even the smallest of movements
Would cause him to shoot

It wasn't the first time it happened
Nor the second but the third
She always had a type
for the crazy ones

She knew it
Ever since her first fling
Five years ago at summer camp
When she fell for a guy
Who wrote a poem about killing a bird

She ignored the signs
The first time
The gun pressed against his head

The second time
He claims
It was the voices
in his head haunting him
Telling him to kill her

Here we are with ex-boyfriend three
"If you move I will shoot you"

She was terrified
Every bone in her body
Couldn't move

She thought of all the signs
She ignored in the past

When he lost his sense of reality
When he started talking to himself
about a person named Ryan

Maybe she
should have called the Hospital
But it was too late now.

Dear Society

Pain.
I changed who I was
To fit you.

Anger.
Is what I felt
When you alienated me.

Suffering.
Is the day I spent
hours crying.

You made me long
to be a part of you

Chess

She was your king
In a game of Chess
The one piece you valued most
You played your pieces
With my heart on your sleeve

You played your pieces
Neglecting that it was there
You used it as a pawn in your battle

That one piece you don't care about
You let it be devoured by deception
Taken by the rook
To you it was just another casualty in Chess

You protected her
You loved her
Without your king
There is no Chess
When things ended

I was collateral Damage
In your game of deception

Trigger

Don't pull the trigger
Once you shoot
There is no going back
The responsibility
will be yours

The realisation of
 what you've done
Will haunt you
You would kill
That one person
That you ever loved
The only one
you felt connected to

Then it's just you again
All alone
The guilt eats you up
You would go insane
You need him

You pull the trigger
Bullets accelerate
Damage you can't undo
He's gone

Love

The mellifluous sound of happiness
That soars within me
I'm enchanted by your smile
Your sweet brown eyes

I've been casted under a spell
When I see you
I can't stop laughing
I won't stop smiling

endorphins in my brain
My heart pounding
One hundred miles an hour

Can I say it?
Will I say it?
The three words

I. Love. You

Her Noise

It was all fun and games
A little laughing
A little tag
She was frolicking
Away from her tagger

She tripped on a rock
The boy approached her
Lifted up her skirt
And groped her

Splash is the sound of tears
Maybe if she wasn't wearing a skirt
He couldn't pull it up
Maybe if she was paying attention
He wouldn't have groped her

Maybe if she hadn't worn a skirt
She wouldn't be in tears
Up at 2 AM thinking about
How this was her fault

It wasn't in her control
It never was
She was only the Victim
Splash is the sound of tears
One of thousands of victims

Broken

All the Little Pieces That made me broken
He inspired me
His happiness lit up a room
But happiness can be deceiving
We didn't know that life
Was what you were leaving
No sooner after
Did a girl fight for her life
Until one day she was beaten by cancer
Until one day we lost her
Why couldn't they switch
A girl who deserved to live
and a boy who didn't
In the broken world
Full of takers and leavers
I'm standing on the edge
Is a girl this broken worth saving

Toxic

Your words like Poison
Toxic In the air
This wasn't for you
You spread like a virus
Funny how this year
I stopped being immune
It keeps growing
Faster than I can fumigate
You say you want to help
"Help for my own good"
While you continue to spread
Your negativity

I just need to breathe
I forgot the sweet aroma
I forgot the sugar scent
That comes with
the great outdoors
The beauty that lies ahead
The laughter
That comes with friendship
