Ashlyn Harris Poem
Leaving you was the easiest
or so I thought
lingering deep within my soul
devouring me
like the waves of an ocean
growing deeper and bigger
until it consumes me
consumes me like a tsunami
unable to stop
think, breath
unable to know
completely lost
helpless
was leaving you the easiest?

Ashlyn Harris Poem
Love is like a falling bird
spinning to it's death
trapped in this world
of unexpected surprises
lost then found
broken then healed
landing on the ground, almost, safe.

Ashlyn Harris Poem
some people think
think they know
know me
know what I have done and seen
if you think you know me
know what I have done
seen
then I think
you don't know me at all
I think I know
know you
know what you have done and seen
if I think I know you
know what you have done
seen
maybe
just maybe I don't know you at all.

Ashlyn Harris Poem
There is five of them
All in one house
They sit as one every night
Sharing more than just laughs and truths
Sharing memories, sharing love
Never thinking for one second
It would ever be different
At least not now
There is four of them
All in one house
Are they still a family when one of them is gone?
Does he have his memory?
Did HE take it?
There is three of them
All in one very big house
They no longer sit every night as one
They start to forget
Do you still remember?
I do

Ashlyn Harris Poem
I’m filled up with doubt, I need to go home
Where the fields are green and the weather unpredictable
Like the sun and the rainfall
I smell the air after it rains, the flowers after they just bloom,
Farms early in the morning and water from a hose
All from bedroom window.
I miss the comfort of people I know
It’s a great feeling, like being under a heated blanket
Warm and safe
Depending not on yourself and having no worries
As the months pass on
Becoming more comfortable with being alone
Home doesn’t seem so far away
I can almost feel the fresh morning breeze hitting my face.
Soon I forget that morning breeze
And the smell from my window
Because I realize that home is wherever I make it
With you, with me, but always with love.

Ashlyn Harris Poem
As the days grew longer
and the nights still
She could feel her world shrinking
Feeling trapped
Like being in a cage
A whole world
just in the reach of her palms
Not knowing
A life full of wondering
As she was looking through the bars
In the distance was a bird
Soaring free
And in that moment
Everything was clear
