Proud of My Skin

PROUD OF MY SKIN

I didn't ask to be the color I am, I was born this way. Talk about it all you want it still ain't gonna change.
I'm proud of my skin and even happier that your not, because as much as you think you're hurting me with your words, the more you need to stop.
My skin is the color of my ancestors that paved the way for my kind to still be around. It's the color of the many years of struggles that we still face right now.
I'm proud of my skin because it displays authority, power and strength, the three things that those not my color think we can't represent.
I wake up every day with a smile on my face, knowing when I walk out my door, someone will give me a look of disgrace.
Their evil and their hate ignites pride to my race, one they will never win because they assume blacks are always in last place.
I'm proud of my skin because we've had to endure more pain and suffering then the Jews, Irish, Indians, and Mexicans. However, we do respect them all because we do understand.
Like many of my people, I remember the dream. Now that we have got that accomplished, we need to seek out for better things.
It astounds me that people are afraid of me just because of the color of my skin. Yet when the summer sun comes out they are the ones trying to blend in.
I'm proud of my skin because I don't need to do much to get attention, therefore I use that to the highest of my ability within reason.
I understand we are all the same, that's not supposed to change because of our race and or last name. So when you start reading those verses out the bible that talks about property and enslavement, think twice before you put a black face in your mind or on the pavement.
I am not some plague here to wipe you away, nor am I doormat that you can step on every day. If you close your eyes and hold my hand you wouldn't even know you were in the presence of a black man.
I'm proud of my skin because I feel no shame. I see everyone that thinks, eats, and breath all as the same.
I'm proud of my skin and you should be too, not because were the same, but because I'm unique just like you.

Dark Skin

I was not told that I would be dark as a shadow in a solitary hole.
No not my soul, but the flesh that doesn't match the man who birth
me; but all of the one that spent seven months moaning for my release

I was not told that it would be my Achilles heel to everyone's jokes
and punchlines as they all fought with bare hands and I with a muzzle.

Words aren't suppose to hurt, but living in a shadow, how could I see
the light behind all the dark remarks that tainted my very existence of
living.

I was not told that love was color blind and that many years later I would
only see happiness when reaching for the light. that I would also be
criticized for not seeing color like many of those I grew up around. Yet,
their skin too would match the blacktop that we all once played as friends.

However, no one told those that kept me in the shadows for all those years
that I am light. No not skin tone, but my heart that holds anyone that I come
across in my life. I'm lighter than a feather on my feet which allows me to
never stay down, for I am light and the shadow that I once was vanished as
my eyes opened to the sun.

Black Eyes of America

I will stop reminiscing over the 1700s when the 2000s stop mirroring the same values
plantations upgraded to prisons, chains to handcuff, masters to head leaders and coaches
shall I keep going!
Segregation to isolation, shacks to the projects, hangings to black brutality, rations to welfare
Yet we are supposed to be happy that the emancipation proclamation set us free!
FREE of what! Free from who!
Our; out of poverty means having to be great in a sport, rapping about stupidity, being gestures to you as comedians, or acting a fool as our reality becomes amusement for your reality TV!
Yea those put food on our tables but at what cost! Being Humiliated by millions!, told what to do and how to do it! Nothing has changed!
Take all those away from us and what have we gained, how do we get into the suburbs!
We CAN'T! the schools we have, the neighbourhoods we live in, the lack of jobs in our communities!
shall I keep going!
the fact that we have more liquor stores on our blocks than we do regular grocery outlets. The fact that we graduate more kids in the streets than we do in the schools. The fact that most jails and prisons are statistically overwhelmed with minorities and not one black warden
SHALL I KEEP GOING!
Why must we be met with dialogue such as “you don't sound black”, or “you don't act like the rest of them” or “you sound so articulate” when we do obtain a great education and still have to fight for top jobs that we so deserve.
Shall I keep going!
Why must responses such as “shut up and dribble '', “this isn't your country”, “All lives Matter” be comments stated when Black leaders try to speak up for change.
Why must the younger generation get told “just forget about it”, “it didn't happen to you” or “stop bringing up the past'', when the 60s are some of our grandparents, the 70s are some of our moms and dads, the 80s and 90s are some of our big brothers and sister! And the 2000s in which we see for ourselves.
All eras in which there have been black hanggins, murders, burnt crosses in front of black homes, klan lead killings, black churches burned, school shootings and protest shootings targeted to black!
Shall I keep going!
Isolation breeds hate, breeds pain, breeds destruction! Over all these years blacks and minorities have been isolated into rundown neighbourhoods, and bad schools and social groups situations, where even the few good ones can fall into the undeniable reality of their surroundings just to make it.
Shall I keep going!

Forever Love

Life without you is unimaginable still till this day.
Your touch, your kiss, and our love could never be replaced.
you give me a reason to smile and that I adore.
Your hugs are my protection, that I always crave more.

Your my bloodline to my heart, helping it pump full of joy.
Your my vocals to my lungs when my laugh needs to make noise.
Your my prints to my fingers whenever I feel your skin.
Your the image in my eyes for whenever I see a vision.

I love you now and forevermore. Being with you everyday
is a life worth living for.
Your my Monday through Friday, my sun and my moon
Your my happy and sad , my weekends too.
Your my dreams while I sleep, and my coffee for the day.
You mean so much to me that these words cant explain.
I love you!

A Best Friends Love

How can I not love you? Like a marriage, you've been by me through thick and thin. You know all my faults, my secretes and all my sins.
You give me hope every time I dream, you lend me help when I'm in need.
You put me in my place when I am wrong, yet when I am weak, you are my weight to hold me strong.
You are the left part of my brain when I'm not always right, you are the one I can depend on to keep me out of fights.
A kiss from one another, we have never had, and the only time I hold you is when you are sad.
Not saying more would't be better, just that I love were we're at. You are my best friend forever, and there is no great love than that.

Connection of Love

Undress me with your eyes and our connection will not last,
give me the decency to listen to your heart, as your words caress my soul.
Let our minds collide by laughter and a hint of smiles. Open up my affection
with all of your truth. Care for me now and I'll always love for you.
