Proud of My Skin

PROUD OF MY SKIN I didn't ask to be the color I am, I was born this way. Talk about it all you want it still ain't gonna change. I'm proud of my skin and even happier that your not, because as much as you think you're hurting me with your words, the more you need to stop. My skin is the color of my ancestors that paved the way for my kind to still be around. It's the color of the many years of struggles that we still face right now. I'm proud of my skin because it displays authority, power and strength, the three things that those not my color think we can't represent. I wake up every day with a smile on my face, knowing when I walk out my door, someone will give me a look of disgrace. Their evil and their hate ignites pride to my race, one they will never win because they assume blacks are always in last place. I'm proud of my skin because we've had to endure more pain and suffering then the Jews, Irish, Indians, and Mexicans. However, we do respect them all because we do understand. Like many of my people, I remember the dream. Now that we have got that accomplished, we need to seek out for better things. It astounds me that people are afraid of me just because of the color of my skin. Yet when the summer sun comes out they are the ones trying to blend in. I'm proud of my skin because I don't need to do much to get attention, therefore I use that to the highest of my ability within reason. I understand we are all the same, that's not supposed to change because of our race and or last name. So when you start reading those verses out the bible that talks about property and enslavement, think twice before you put a black face in your mind or on the pavement. I am not some plague here to wipe you away, nor am I doormat that you can step on every day. If you close your eyes and hold my hand you wouldn't even know you were in the presence of a black man. I'm proud of my skin because I feel no shame. I see everyone that thinks, eats, and breath all as the same. I'm proud of my skin and you should be too, not because were the same, but because I'm unique just like you.
