War and Battle

In Flanders Fields
The story goes
The poppies grow
Between the rows

The soldiers
Some tall, some short
Lay at peace
Their families come
Reflect and leave

Today the combatants
Row on row
Wait their turn
Some tall, some bald
Their loved ones
By their side

The news today
Another poke
Another wait
Another hope

This battle seems unending
But everyone is resolute
Although some fall
They fall far less
The suffering though
There none the less

Years from now
As research grows
Some things will change
Some things will not

Lest we forget

The Spoils

The Spoils

A long battle fought hard and lost
The spoils of war to the beaten
An eternity in heaven

To those left behind
Emptiness and solace
A lifetime of memories

Move

MOVE

On,
because I am better than he.

On,
because it couldn't have been real.

On,
because I accepted less than I deserve.

On,
because I ignored the clues.

On,
because he was blind to,
my worth,
my ability to love deeply,
my sweetness.

On,
because it's over.
It's over, it's over.

I'll take a deep breath of acceptance,
and move on.
