I'M An Introvert

Don’t mistake my calm demeanor
As being aloof or superior
It is an aspect of my character.

My mind is moving at 10,000 RPMs

I hear what you say
but I’m also 2,000 miles away
I can’t help but to remember
   what didn’t happen yesterday
I love all the people around me…
sometimes, can’t they just go away?

Juggling my thoughts as I walk away

“Get Up! Dance!” some insist
But this just gets me pissed
My silence is not fright
And I do not suffer from some blight
I am not depressed or mad
Stop asking if I’m sad!

Knowing who we are keeps us sane

Silence is ominous to the extrovert
They need a score to act their part
Their scene is action from the start

My scene (to them) is a mystery
Quiet shadows and light on the stage for me
My role to be, or not to be

I accept we are not the same

The clear winter dawn lights my path
Over plains, fields and ranges
It guides my heart to a place of peace
A journey that will never cease

Calm and still, easy and truthful, well and good

Bitch Bitch Bitch

Oh Dear God,
I so want to be alone!
Nobody around to care for
Nobody around to please
Nobody around to complain
Nobody around to judge

To be a pig
To leave a mess in the kitchen for tomorrow
To drink a beer for breakfast,
  find my cleanest dirty shirt
  and drink another for dessert

Love is sweet agony
Please just go away
Love is divine torture
Please! Won’t you stay!

I’ll do just what you want,
But let me do it my way
I’m not a mind reader
So please show me the way
I want you to be happy
I toil so hard every day
But I get a bunch of blah
I don’t know what to say
You’re always so crass
It must be hard to be so angry every day?

Love can be a bitch
Love can be an ass
Love can be a hole
Love can give you gas

Love can be beautiful
Love can be sweet
Love can be comforting
Love just can’t be beat

Trust Lost

We live our days trading in trust.
Who do we trust, who trusts us?
What do we trust them with;
our time, our money, our children?
What are we entrusted with?
  Why should they trust us,
and why should we trust them?

Will he stop at the red light?
Will my paycheck clear the bank?
Can I make good on that loan?
Just where do I rank?

Do they bully my child?
Was my car really busted?
And the politician…
Can he be trusted?

When trust is gone,
More than trust is lost.
The pain remains,
Both pay a heavy cost.
In the swelter of June,
There is a frost.
Love can grow anew,
But the scar is always there.
At times however,
The pain is too much to bear.
And the only cure,
Is to cease to care.

Four Ladies

My mom raised me
She fed me
She cared for me
My mom is a saint
Raising five boys…
How can you say she ain’t?

My wife is nuts!
She is worried she may get laid off,
Yet she is hoping she will :\
She worries too much
But takes it all in stride
She is so strong and so weak at the same time
Dealing with all the stress
Yet the dog farting is too much!

My daughter is mine
She is too much like me,
Only more so
She doesn’t worry enough
Life brings what comes along
Her heart is full of song
But it’s mostly metal and punk and rap
And I just don’t get that crap
My daughter is also an addict you see…
Which is hard for us to understand, you see.
Addicts can’t “just stop”.
They let the drug-of-choice rule their life
They don’t care about the strife
There are triggers you know
That make the addict so
Stress, anxiety, depression, loneliness and boredom
They all push the addict towards the ledge
And their low self-esteem is the finale step
  Over
       The
             Edge.
She is in recovery now…
She is doing well
She will always be
An addict you see
We love her the best we can
We will stick to the plan
And take each day
As it comes in to play.

My granddaughter is great!
She’s not yet two
She is nuts too.
She knows nothing of how
She came to my house.
(refer to the stanza on “My Daughter”)
She loves unconditionally
She loves Grandpa you see.
She doesn’t yet speak
So she cries her fears
And I dry her tears
And just like with her grandma and her mother
I try to read her mind
To see if I can tell
What it is that makes her yell
But she is sweet and kind and beautiful
And grandpa spoils her so…
Bet he can’t help it, you know.

It may be politically incorrect
But I don’t care;
Sometimes there is too much estrogen in the air
So grandpa gets out of the house
And meets his buds
And drinks some suds
And tells dirty jokes
About the kind of women
My mother and wife never were,
and I hope my daughter and granddaughter never will be.
So point your finger at me
And yell Hypocrisy!
I don’t care
Because you wouldn’t dare
Live my life for me.
But I would not trade all of this
To be rid of the drama (and the bliss)
It’s four against one
   the ladies and me
Walk a mile in my shoes
And you will see
It takes great strength to do what I do
Four-to-One, and two dogs too.

Lies From the Pit of Hell

Lies from the pit of HELL!

The Devil is the father of all Lies
He is subtle and devious
He is cruel and merciless
He is daring and bold
He is selfish and cold

He knows what we want to hear
He likes to whisper in our ear
He tells us we will be fine
He seems to be oh so kind

He wants our soul
He wants it whole
He’ll take our life
With a silver knife

Trust the Sly Devil
At your own peril
Promises of power, fortune and fame
Just roll the dice and play the game
He’ll tell you there’s nothing to lose
Pills, Crack, Pot or Booze
You’ll have it all!
Till last call!
And HE’LL be laughing
As he watches you fall

The cruel lie of addiction is that we are fooled into thinking our wants are really our needs. The disease wreaks havoc on our minds and our bodies and even our souls. We will lie, cheat and steal for another fix, not caring who we hurt. Most notably, we are lying and hurting ourselves much more than the people who love us.

She Knows Who She Is

I have no will of my own
Her presence in my mind stands alone
Timeless beauty
She knows who she is
She has set her goals
Like a diamond
Both beautiful and cold

Her heart is on fire
With passion and desire
Elegantly serine
She knows who she is
Her devotion, her soul
Rock of faith
Graceful and bold

She may be crazy
As she picks a daisy
Refined playfulness
She knows who she is
She is an unfinished story
Masterpiece of delight
Mischievous glory

She loves me as no other
With both pain and pleasure
Lighthearted longing
She knows who she is
Ever needing a kiss
The Song of Songs
Heartfelt bliss

Begin Again

It was a sudden turn
That didn’t make sense
Into the darkest forest
The region most dense
Where darkness reins
And fear remains
Where gray clouds
Bring cold, heavy rains

We were shattered and lost
Together but alone
Blind leading blind
Feeling naked and prone
No direction feels right
No destination in sight
Shadows closing in
No one cares of our plight

Pale sun rising
Our bones painfully cold
Blank stares at empty faces
Eyes sallow, gray and old
We come to each other
To speak of a brother
Lost far too soon
And pray for his mother

Time will keep moving
A never ending crawl
As we begin again
Summer into Fall
Watchful towards Spring
Winters cold bling
Crystalized tears
Slowly, gently, melting

Wasted Dreams

Wasted dreams
Silent screams
Time gone by
Makes me cry

I am alone
The fading groan
My heart is lost
My mind is frost

All hope slips away
Night crowds out the day
Sounds fall to the deep
No rest while I sleep

Why must I feel this pain
They all believe I’m sane
What if they say is true
Life is a cage-less zoo

Can’t see
No plea
Last run
I’m done

To Know Snow

Who says ignorance is bliss?
To live not knowing what you do not know
To just admire the falling snow
With no thought as to how it came to be
Without a hint of curiosity

Ignorance is often born of fear
We don’t want to know what we do not know
Why should we fear the falling snow?
We are bundled head to toe
But are we safe from ice and cold?

Are we ignorant of the truth?
Honestly, we are better off not knowing
Close the blinds because it’s snowing
We are warm within our castle
Truth is just a great big hassle

To understand my ignorance
Wisdom is to know what I do not know
It soon will cease, the falling snow
The clouds are breaking apart
Blue skies are warming my heart

Who says knowledge is power?
Confident to act on what I know
I know the depth of the fallen snow
I know when it is safe to go
I know which way the wind does blow

Can we handle the truth?
Accepting the truth of what I know
Oh, the weight of shoveling snow!
Facts are heavier than fiction
And life is more than just invention

My Path

I can’t find a path or direction
I don’t know my current location
Should I stay and risk being caught
Should I move and crash into what

I keep looking at my options,
	and they’re all wrong.

I await a sign to show the way,
But I just see a silent bell.

Should I really care;
	Can I wait too long?

Does any of this even matter,
Is it just drama from hell

                                         Prayer, love and forgiveness
                                         will guide me.

                                         My Lord has the answers
                                         I need to listen.

                                         I will trust in Jesus
                                         and He will trust me.

Together we will find the path
as long as my heart is open.

Book: Reflection on the Important Things
