Waiting

Waiting

It doesn't seem so long ago,
A little girl was born.
Always wanting my attention,
Unable to give her more.

The little girl is walking,
Waiting to hold my hand.
With her shovel and her bucket,
To make castles in the sand.

Mommy your always busy,
Can’t you hear my plea?
I don't need what money can buy,
I just want you here with me.

Mommy can you hear me?
It seems your never home.
I'm just a little girl,
Waiting by the phone.

Mommy, I got the part,
In the talent show at school.
Please say you can make it,
So I can see the pride in you.

Hey Mom, I made the team,
Can you make it to my game?
I'm sorry, but work is way too busy,
I just can’t get away.

How the years have flown right by,
Realizing all that I have missed.
Never fully understanding,
All that I dismissed.

So now she is all grown up,
Doesn't need me anymore.
No longer is she waiting,
For me to come through the door.

I guess the roles have been reversed,
For it’s my turn to wait at home.
I'm just a mother,
Waiting by the phone.
