Soldier Boy

Once there was a soldier boy,
young and brave and smart.
He had some questions bugging him,
they tore his brain apart.

He went along to ask his friends-
''Why there can't be peace?''
They just laughed into his face,
''Let us tell you what peace means:

';Peace means love, peace means hope
peace means painless, fearless trust.
There's no love, there's no hope,
all the fearless lay in dust.''

He went along to ask the trees,
the plants and flowers too.
Then they all replied to him
''Answers we have few:

People kill themselves and us,
they cut us up for fire.
And with the fire that they cut
the tension becomes higher.''

Soldier boy then went to war,
questions still in mind.
He kept on searching in the field,
for answers he can't find.

He walked up to the enemy,
beat starts to increase.
''Tell me, good man, tell me please
why there can't be peace?''

The man pointed his gun to him,
aiming to his heart.
''I'm sorry, young man,'', then he said
''I really hate this part.''

---

Once there was a soldier boy,
young and smart and brave.
He had some questions bugging him,
they took him to his grave.

What Beauty Is

In my next life
I'll butterfly
and live just for a day.
My wings will flutter
beautifully
until they turn to gray
and then I'll die
and come to life
as human, second time
and realize
that beauty is
not close to paradise.

Of Love and What Comes After

I love
The leaves that fall too silent to the
ground, I love
When I'm lost and don't want to be
found, I love
When I dance and my head's spinnin
round, I love
When you leave and I feel like
I've drowned.
I love
When you hate me so much that it
hurts, I love
When you push me to ashes and
dirts, I love
When my eyes are as dry as
desserts, I love
When I can't seem to manage my blurts.
I love
When I'm numb and I don't feel a
thing, I love
When the feel of a bee doesn't
sting, I love
When I sleep walk from winter to
spring, I love
When the memories choke like a
string but I hate
You.

The Beach and You and Us

the tide rolls on the midnight beach
and stars, they shine so great and bright
the wind blows slightly through your hair
and you, you hold me there so tight

the morning comes and so does sun
its rays, they kiss your sandy cheek
your lashes drop, the way you smile
replaces all, for I can't speak

Night Morning Things

It’s one forty eight in the morning.
It's late.
(Or early, depends on the mood.)
And now, at the one forty eight of today
The street cats are fighting for food.

It's one fifty one in the morning.
I'm up.
Apparently some neighbor too.
His voice and my keyboard at one fifty one
Meet skies that will soon turn to blue.

It's suddenly two in the morning.
I suck
at finding the right rhymes to things.
I lied, it's actually one fifty nine
And circles are just cheaper rings.

It's two zero two in the morning.
Oh my.
I think I should head up to bed.
Too bad that to sign this poem off really cool
You'd have to be named Mr. Ted.

Goodnight.

If

if love
is not
the softest rain
that falls
atop
the trees,
the softest light
in green and gold,
the softest, lightest breeze;
if it is not
the silence
of
the clouded skies above
if it is not
a forest
i don't think
i've ever
loved
