My Diabetes

My Diabetes
Getting Type 1 Diabetes has changed my life.
It often gives me lots of grief and lots of strife.
How I wish I could give it a way,
But come what may, it is here to stay.
Four shots a day of insulin I give.
Without these I have no chance to live.
Daily tests I have to do,
And the HBA1C is the one I need for my annual review.
Then come the 3 monthly doctor visits,
Sometimes long, but often last minutes.
Eyesight is a big thing for me.
Going blind would mean I cannot see.
Type 1 Diabetes was not by choice,
And although I have it I can add my voice,
To find a cure for everyone of course.

My Writing

Its no secret that I love to write
I love writing in the morning and at night.

for now the poetry that I am writing is about my life journey
and the people that I knew.

Through doing nathan's 30 day journal challenge
I feel now that my journaling is in balance.

to write my poems so that they rhyme,
I feel that this is the right sign.

so roll up and read what I ahve to say
because in the end I am doing it my way.

Hush of Christmas Past- Christmas Memories By Carol Johnston

Hush of Christmas Past - Christmas Memories by Carol Johnston

Christmas used to be lots of fun, waiting for
aunts and uncles and cousins to come.
The Christmas dinner would be late, but oh the yummy food we ate.
Then everyone would take a rest until it was time for afternoon tea.
Christmas cake and a glass of stout for the oldies.A glass of lemonade for me.

Now its all changed.
My siblings have moved on with children of their own. So Christmas Day they spend
with them and my partner and I are all alone.

Thunder

Thunder
I hate the sound of thunder as it rumbles all around
The flashes of lightning scare me when they touch the ground
If I had to tell you a fear, it would be that thunderstorms scare.

I've been like this since very small.
Those thunderstorms were never a good call.
Even now its still much the same although accepting them is
the name of the game.

A Christmas Snow

A Christmas Snow
The snow fell silently over night.
In the morning it lay glistening white.
I looked out my bedroom window to see the
snow piled as high as my knees.
Outside the trees were covered in snow,
even the branches were loaded low.
Then from the old pine tree the cardinal did appear
his magical chirping filling the air.
Nostalgic thoughts came rushing back to me.
This was Christmas as it used to be.

The Day My Life Changed

The Day My Life Changed.
It was November 1982,
that terrible day that broke my life in two.
My bloke had an accident and broke his back,
And so began a whole new life,
One that was often filled with strife.
No more would we be able to live in the High Country,
Trudging through the Winter snow.
That dream had gone down,
The only place we could call home now, was in town.
Four months of living out of suitcases, not having a home,
Not a great time of my life, but it had to be done.
That was my choice when two became one.
For a further 20 years I stayed, but often unhappy,
My marriage was over. We had grown apart.
I now knew the decision that I had to make.
It was time for me to depart.

Sounds of Silence

Sounds of Silence.
Silence is eerie and kind of scary,
And around us is nothing,
The air is still,
No wind whispering through the trees
Just the sound of silence.
The Sound of Silence,
What is to come?
Is it the calm before the storm
Or is it just in our mind
I wait with anticipation,
and wondrous adoration
At the thought of peace forever more,
because the sound of silence has stopped the War.
