So You Wouldn'T Have To

You should have known
That I'd be there for you
I've been there since the beginning
And has never ceased to be true

I've helped you through
Many a storm
When you were cold
My faith kept you warm

I've carried you
On my already aching back
I've used my body
To shield you against attack

I cried tears
So you wouldn't have to
I tried my best
To keep pain away from you

I put myself in front
Of any harm that came your way
So you would survive
To see another day

You may not have realized
That all of this was going on
But I'll continue to endure your pain
Until I am gone

The Beat of My Heart

I stare at my heart,
As it beats on the floor.
It's been ripped out,
And stomped on,
And chopped up into pieces.
Though it has been mutilated
It continues to beat.
Thump, thump, thump,
Thump is how it goes.
It was dislocated by my lover.
The one I loved the most.
The one I gave my heart to.
But after they decided
That it no longer had any use.
They destroyed and mocked it.
Then turned around and left,
Left me lying there
In a pool of my blood.
Wasting away, alone, cold, lonely.
As the last life drains from my body,
I close my eyes and wait,
Wait until I can no longer
Hear the beat of my heart.

What Have You Lost?

Searching your thoughts,
Searching your mind,
What have you lost?
Searching your heart,
Searching your soul,
What have you lost?
Was it love?
Was it life,
Or vitality?
Was it rhyme?
Was it reason,
Or your sanity?
What have you lost,
Young one?
What have you lost?
You've paid the cost,
Young one.
You've paid the cost
For not holding on to
That which is precious.
What have you lost

Already Somebody's Baby

I love you and in my heart
I can feel that you love me to.
But I cannot come out
And say that I love you.

You see I have a problem,
And you have one too.
But we don't communicate it
Because there's nothing we can do.

I am already somebody's baby,
And you are the same.
We're both in love with someone
Who we feel is to blame.

We blame them
Because we loved them first.
But for the love of each other
We hunger and thirst.

We look at each other
With only a desire we notice.
We are always careful
That our loved one doesn't know this.

I'm already somebody's baby
And you are too.
But that doesn't change the fact,
That I am hopelessly in love with
you.

Maybe next lifetime,
Another time and place.
When we are different people
And this a different case.

Mine

You were brought to me
Through a couple hours of pleasure
Followed by many hours of pain.

You brought with you sunshine
Getting rid of so many clouds And so much rain.

Each day, I gaze at you
Because I love you
And you are God's gift.

With you I'm never down
Because you smile
And my spirits it lifts.

I love your little nose
And that beautiful dimple
I could kiss it all day long.

Just the touch of your finger
Makes me write poetry
And even sing songs.

I can think of no happier day
Then when in my life
You so graciously came.

My heart leaps
And my soul jumps
At the mere mention of your name.

As we both grow
Before my eyes
You try to be so strong.

But you know
That you still need me
To help you along.

For all the days
Of your life
And of mine.

I love you
With the love
Of one-thousand hearts combined.

Black Beauty

Like the Nubian princess she is, she rises above the dust and ashes she calls
her life. This life has continuously given her heartache. Blow after blow, she
takes them all. Battered bruised, dazed, confused, tore up she does not know
what to do. Many times she has been scorned, lied to, cheated on, and trampled
all over. She has been a dumping ground for insults, stereotypes, hateful words.
Harlot, stupid, disappointment she has heard them all. Love is foreign to her, but
hate is something that is all too familiar. Life she has never seen, but death is all
around her. To her goodness no longer exists. Evil rains like acid all around her.
It eats through her flesh and devours her soul. But she has survived and is
growing a new, warm soul.

Tormented By Longing

Love, I cannot stand you being away
I am not sure that I can survive another day
Without your soothing, gentle, tender touch
Oh, I long to hold you ever so much
Just the thought of your warm, inviting smile
Could make me swim a hundred miles
I am you and you are me
Like pieces of a puzzle we fit perfectly
Without you nothing feels right
I wish that you could hold me tight
I can almost feel your breath upon my cheek
The thought of your sensual lips makes we weak
My thoughts wonder to the night me consummated our love
It was as if a light came shining from above
You are truly a gift that is heaven sent
So why now from you am I rent?
Lying in bed alone is such cruelty.
Why won’t you hurry back to me?
I love you dear with all of me
I cannot wait for you to come back and see

Opposite

Love is not patient
Love is not kind
So whoever came up with that
Must have been outta their mind

Love does envy
And gets jealous too
If you didn't know
Well, now you do

Love boasts
And is very proud
It's rude
And is extremely loud

Love seeks for itself
And gets mad fast
It keeps records
Of wrongs done in the past

Love delights in evil
And wishes you to fail
It wants you to go through
The fire, rain, and hail

Love enjoys lies
And keeps no one safe
It trusts no one
And has no faith

Love doesn't hope
And will not persevere
Love doubts
And always fears
