Dark Hearts

Evil larks in the dark hearts of men
Impure, tainted love
Makes it hard to love again
Anger in their eyes,
Places fear in my soul
A feeling I’ve come to know all too well
That can put a chill through my bones
Full of disappointments
And cries of fear
Puts burning fire below all who come near
He stalks the shadows
Throughout the night
He’s hurt me once
He’s hurt me twice
And once more,
Before the dawning of the light.

In One Night

I was in a room
Where I wasn’t supposed to be
I looked at her, eyes closed
Not looking back at me
I began to cry
So I went back to the waiting room,
But I couldn’t walk in.
I saw these people that I once knew
Supposed to be my family
But haven’t seen in years.
So I sat on the floor outside instead
Where I couldn’t stop crying
But I knew that the ones who cared
Would come out to comfort me.
The night was long
I thought it would never end.
I worried so much,
That it began to hurt.
I couldn’t sleep, I could barely eat.

I went back to that room
Where I wasn’t supposed to be
I looked at her, eyes closed
Not looking back at me.
But this time I didn’t cry
I held my head up high
Believing in things would be okay
I kissed her good-bye,
I knew these would be my final words
To someone I loved dear.
She was my whole world,
And decades later it still brings me to tears.
