Mary White Poem
Underneath me the water Churns in anticipation I wait for the wave
That will push me forward.
The spray of the water
Keeps me moist
I surge forward
Balanced on the wall of water
Exhilaration floods through me
I am racing towards the sandy beach
Then your feet stumble
I feel your weight disappear
I am thrown into the ocean
Tossed about mercilessly
Keeping a grip on your leg
I bob to the surface
Discouraged, you paddle
Heading for the shore
You lift me up
And carry me away
Now I am waiting
In the dark, in the dust
When you try again
Try to tame the waves
I will be ready
I am always ready
I long for the thrill
Of riding the foam
Hurry up, I plead
Hurry up and try again

Mary White Poem
Somebody once said that people
Would always strive for the impossible
Because they could.
People learn and make mistakes
Fall and get up again
Because it’s our nature.
Humans don’t give up.
So when you see a glimpse
Of something unknown, something new
You reach for it and try to grasp it.
When Edison made the light bulb
When Einstein made his laws
When Newton discovered gravity
They all were reaching into the unknown.
If anyone had asked them
Why they would bother doing so
When life was already fine the way it was
They all would have answered
Maybe in a different way
But meaning the same thing
Because they can.
Now when I open a book
Drinking in knowledge
Learning what I hadn’t known before
I am discovering something new
Something only I can discover
And I’m making something amazing
Out of the extraordinary.
When somebody asks me today
Why I bother learning now
When I could leave it to someone else
I tell them that without learning,
Life is a waste, since
humans will always reach to the unknown
Because we can.

Mary White Poem
Frothing, Churning
The liquid inside me
Tries to Escape
I stay closed
And toss about
My Load all the more.
The weight of the Load
Made of sodden fabrics
Is nothing compared
To my Strength
I toss about mercilessly
Soaking, Tumbling,
I am undefeated.
What Am I?

Mary White Poem
I read, I read,
The start of a seed
Begins to need
Water.
I see, I see,
Much larger than me
It soon will be
After.
I talk, I talk,
Beginning to walk
Down the mock
Pattern.
They say, they say,
I’m starting to stray,
Seen what’s not,
Fought what’s been,
Piecing together,
Matters forever,
I hear, I hear,
It’s nothing near
What began to rear
Faster.
I think, I think,
Beginning to drink
Of the fish in the pink
Cover.
I dream, I dream,
Of what is not seen
And what has not been
Discovered.

Mary White Poem
The sun comes up
And I lie in bed
Perhaps I could stay here
All day long
Reading my book
Relaxing
This week has been hard
And I deserve a rest
But later on
I finish my book
There's nothing to do
And I am bored
I jump out of bed
And throw on an outfit
The day is full of possibilities
And I am full of energy
Perhaps
I will sleep in
Tomorrow

Mary White Poem
Birth-well, that's the beginning
I can't remember much
A flash of light,
Cold, then warmth,
And that's it, really.
Toddler- that's what I was
When I was learning to walk
I'd stumble, then fall
And get back up
Only to tumble over again
Child- the first day of school
Was when I became this
I met some friends
Ran around, and played
Blissfully naive and happy
Teen- when I was
Trying to break
Every rule that confined me
I wanted to be my own person
But I just couldn't think
Of who I was.
Adult- older then,
But still learning
Each and every day
I wanted my life on track
I did my job the best I could
To make the money for me
And now, I lie
At the end
Wondering what my life
Would have been
If I had tried to make someone else
Happy, instead of me.
Perhaps I would have been content
But now it is too late
So heed my words
And try to make more
Of your life, before
It is too late
And you meet the embrace
Of Death.
