The Senior Calm

Time can wait for me today
so I can think of a way to stay
completely calm and not in the way
of the senior person who has come to stay
but do not let me hurt her pride
she is old and very wise
to let me sit by and by
To hear her thoughts good times and bad
To see her face light up and go sad
How she lives her life today
Remembering people that are gone away
How they made her life what it is today
I am thankful she let me in
To Share her full life good and bad
Just to hope that she is not sad
But happy to have lived a long, long time
She made me glad that she was here
To know that I was part of the good times
not the bad, that I made her happy and not sad
How blessed we are to be able to listen and know
The special seniors in our lives who
If not for them we could not grow.

Letting Go

How hard it is for us to let go
Of the person who has grown so old
How she came to live with us
To share with us her final years
And be at peace and calm her fears
To hold her hand and let her know that is okay
If she is tired and doesn't want to stay
But go and to see her family and friends
Who had already left her for a far better place
We must be strong and let her go
Knowing her life was oh so good and long
She will be missed that we do know
But we made her happy so she could go
to see the loved ones in that far better place
Where she will always be happy and safe
