Autumn

autumn sky
patches of twilight
in the falling leaf

autumn dawn
mother serves white rice
on an almond leaf

autumn dawn
she sees a white hair
in my mustache

autumn
listening deep
to my inner voice

on a stone bench
mother fingers her wrinkles
autumn loneliness

Dream Season

spring dream
a rooster stirs the stillness
into dawn

calmness . . .
jogging into
the spring dawn

hot spring bath –
the nibbling fish
tingle my skin

waterfall
I photograph
its mist of spring

train pane mist
she rubs on
the other side

spring rain
the scent of green in
the dawn breeze

february full moon
the beach tides deepen
the voice of children

spring moon
the scent of jasmine
spreading in the night

Poignant Haiku

spring dream
a rooster stirs the stillness
into dawn

distant hill
a river carrying
the spring

rolling out
of the rice fields –
remaining snow

spring’s end
my infant fingers
the fallen petal

sun bath
an eagle circles
the day moon

autumn dawn --
mother serves white rice
on an almond leaf

autumn sky
patches of twilight
in the falling leaf

Summer

summer dawn –
the path of cowries
beyond the sea

summer dream
counting the butterflies
in neighbor’s garden

piercing the
breeze, my chute lifts –
summer beach

summer twilight . . .
the bee eater stirring
tall grass

summer sunset –
changing colour of
rising waves

summer's end . . .
the waterfall thunders into
my laughter

last day of summer
bouncing, the pool ball
of her eyes

summer ends
the wallah takes down
the raincoat array

Haiku, Senryu and Tanka

ocean sounds
I pass a conch
from my ear to hers

monsoon dusk
the flood carrying
my shattered dreams

long rain
the homelessness
reopens the school

holding tight
to the hand of my child--
on the iPad
my mother talks and talks
of returning roles

Haiku

Hanging bridge . . .
the pot water wobbling
on her hip

Autumn sky . . .
patches of twilight
in the falling leaf

In the aquarium
stillness of the goldfish . . .
autumn dusk

Kite sky . . .
the clamour of children
fading with it

Uphill walking . . .
she takes me into
winter clouds
