Letdown

Blow out the candles
make a wish, say a prayer
prepare for letdown

Beyond Suffering

Breath deeply my child,
eyes closed my child, you'll soon be
beyond suffering.

I Am a Whisper

I am a whisper
I am a warning
I am the Man in the Moon

I am a secret
I am a sinner
I am an ominous tune

I am a flicker
I am a failure
I am an unrealized dream

I am a poet
I am a patient
I am a suppressed scream

I am a burden
I am a bystander
I am a felonious battle

I am quiver
I am quandary
I am a curt death rattle

I am a mirage
I am a mantis
I am a silent imposition

I am a shadow
I am a shortcoming
I am a glaring omission

Epitaph

Epitaph is a collection of dark short stories, unsettling poetry, and hopeless musings.

It is available for Amazon Kindle. http://www.amazon.com/Epitaph-ebook/dp/B00CCFQ9XS/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_t

Or Barnes and Nobel NOOK. http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/epitaph-kyle-halberg/1115920109?ean=2940016540689

Here are a few reviews to wet your apetite.

1) "Epitaph is a dark, quick read about the absurdity of the finite human condition.
If Kafka and Palahniuk had a brief affair, this would be their lovechild."

2) "Coventional Society Has Been Condemned. The author presents a well written, detailed condemnation of conventional American/Christian dogma. The author's anger is palpable. Thought provoking to say the least..."

3) "I was startled by the boldness of Epitaph. The author did with this something a lot of people are unwilling to do: be completely and insanely honest. In a strange and satisfying mix of poems, fiction, and philosophy, it explores what it means to exist, and if it is even fair to say that we do. Hearing that, you may be surprised to also hear that this collection contains some of the most creative, thoughtful, and downright hilarious things I have ever read.

That being said, I hesitate to recommend this to most people, because the evident and strangling despair of the author will upset them. If you are happy, skipping from day to day without a care in the world (in other words, if you are boring and thoughtless), DO NOT READ THIS! If you want to peer into the mind of a madman, and become mad for a short time yourself, Epitaph is the place to go."

Truth

The truth has been locked away in the closet of lunacy.

The truth is dangerous.
The truth does not support civilized society.
The truth is chaotic.
The truth is a polar bear in the desert.

The truth is unnerving.
The truth will not set us free.
The truth is a bloody steak for a starving vegan.
The truth is the abyss.

The truth is never ending.
The truth is cruel.
The truth is unbiased.
The truth has no place in houses of worship.

The truth is sick.
The truth won’t concede.
The truth is fine china at an all-you-can-eat buffet.
The truth can never be unseen.

The truth is an esoteric poet.
The truth is an equal opportunity destroyer.
The truth is beauty to a staggering degree.
The truth has never known.

The truth presents no forth-coming solution.
The truth is a bargain.
The truth is drowning in the fountain of youth.
The truth doesn’t understand.

The truth is a child lost in a forest of idiocy.
The truth has never saved anyone.
The truth is a smile before the eyes of a blind man.
The truth is…

Suicide

Wet hair clings to his forehead, and his eyes are clenched shut.
He’s colder than he’s ever been before, but his hands remain still.
His soul is slowly slipping away, and he braces for oblivion.

The earth beneath him is soft, and the sky above him is black.
Lifeblood is staining the grass, but his calamity is almost complete.
His heart is barren, and his mind is blank.

They say you can’t take anything with you, and he finally knows what they mean.
The rain is refreshing, and his cheeks are pale.
He gasps his last wretched breath, and he prays there is no God.

A Toast For the Toastless

Here's to the days I never saw,
And here's to the days I'll never see.

Here's to the men who neglected their women,
And here's to the women who never loved me.

Here's to this drink and the burn down my throat,
And here's to the world that provokes it.

Here's to the transgressions that cannot be undone,
And here's to the poison I spit.

Here's to the Universe of which I am a part,
And here's to the doubt of that fact.

Here's to the turbulent seas of my mind,
and here's to a suicide pact.

Here's to the life I once thought I could live,
And here's to drowning in sorrow.

Here's to the abyss at the end of this page,
And here's to no hope for tomorrow.

Sanity

My cerebral stability is not a sure thing.
I can see myself running naked down an airport runway.
I can hear myself shrieking through padded walls.

For so many people psychological security comes naturally.
These people make eye contact without fear of vanishing.
They sip tea from a glass and don't consider seppuku.

I look at Mona Lisa and I wonder what her game is.
I sulk in the corner and pretend I’m not invisible.
My silhouette is more honest than I will ever be.

My psyche is a seed buried beneath the soil of Carthage.
Its battle is up a hill with pits to fall in along the way.
There's something to be said for having to fight for your sanity.

Moon Lit Lady

SF

I see you when I close my eyes, my moon lit lady
Cotton dress
Tan lines
Hot temper

I see you when I close my eyes
Infectious laughter
Blushing

I see you in my dreams, my moon lit lady
Standing on a beach
Toes curled in the sand
A small boat run aground to the left
Shoes kicked off to the right

I see you in my dreams
Windswept hair
Shoeing a horse

I see you in my hallucinations, my moon lit lady
Black wings stretched wide
Hands full of honey
Hovering over a pool of liquid melody

I see you in my hallucinations
Roses singing
Tears of silver

I see you in my nightmares, my moon lit lady
Skin boiling
Callused claws
Heart on the sleeve

I see you in my nightmares
White dress
Thoughts of forever

The Man Behind the Curtain

I have seen the man behind the curtain
I have looked into his hollow eyes

I have seen the man behind the curtain
I trembled when I heard his cries

I have seen the man behind the curtain
I have seen my own demise

I have seen the man behind the curtain
My journey here was most unwise

Dorothy sought out the man behind the curtain
For me he was an unwelcome surprise

I have seen the man behind the curtain
I bought in to his clever lies

I have seen the man behind the curtain
It is not chicken, but children he fries

I have seen the man behind the curtain
I asked a priest if he could exercise

I have seen the man behind the curtain
There is no redemption I surmise

I have seen the man behind the curtain
Now all I ever see are flies

I have seen the man behind the curtain
Mortality and time are my only allies
