Believe

When I was younger i was taught to believe in god
Now i wonder if i misunderstood, Whether it was all a mirage
Baptized in holy water so the father could give a trial by fire
Suicidal thoughts seek to conspire
As we forget the angels and our demons consume us
Earth encrusted shoulders, each day a little boulder
And I want to be a believer
But all i see is anger and shots of liquid amber
I heard the preacher tell me that god loves us
That we're like angels, simply wingless
And i want to believe
That there's someone out there
But every prayer brings another Sandy
Children in the school yard fall like confetti
Like a bloody ticker-tape parade
As his light simply tiger stripes the shade
Never erases, simply highlights the
Yosemite Sam sound effects that serenade
A generation where white boards double a body armor
And with every dead child i struggle to reconcile
This love-hate relationship
But i want to believe
That the love outweighs the hate
But we're screaming hello
While he whispers goodbye
Like we're that second page in another hopeless fairy tale
Sprinkling bodies like Hansel's breadcrumbs
As we search for that ginger bread house they told us was a church
But we find only the pieces of us we left behind
The parts that shattered on impact as we free fell
Leaving us looking a little less beautiful than before
And i want to believe
But im stuck in this mortuary closet
Filled with skeletons of my past life
Sitting around trading war stories
And i want to believe
I look for god, but i never get pass the neon cathedral
Sacramental whiskey sips and bartender confessionals
Never used a chaser i was too afraid to chase the truth
Mostly cause i was to scared of myself
So i exchange fear for numbness as I use whiskey-scented band aid substitutes
Trying to drown my demons but my terrors taught them to swim
I just want to believe
But first i want to believe in me

It Can Not Stay

I was once told the gold in life can not stay
That just like the harvest moon, it can not stay

That while night shall always give birth to day
We should not dream of light, it can not stay

Rage, Rage against the dying of the light, the old sages say
But why battle against fate, even it can not stay

And we abhor the moon and what in darkness may lay
But our fears will leave soon, it can not stay

We hope and pray for heroes to keep our nightmares at bay
But even heroes die, they can not stay

And you, Little Bear, whose pains are all that light the way
Even Bears have faltering strength, but the sputter can not stay

Land of Youth

As another night dies, I ask how did you sleep Momma?
When nightmares plague your vision, did you sleep ok Momma?

Cold winds howling like a child's fairy tale
Are we little pigs waiting for the wolf in our sleep Momma?

When only the screams, "Fe, Fi, Fo, Fum" thunders with the storm
Where do you run when it wakes your sleep Momma?

When the beanstalk never gets shorter,
When you're so tired you just want to sleep Momma

What do you do when your roses fall to ashes,
Will your heart still sing you lullabyes to sleep Momma?

When Jill never comes down the hill
And the itsy bitsy spider eats Jack, will you sleep OK Momma?

Are we wondering blind like Hansel and Gretel,
Looking for digested breadcrumbs in our sleep Momma?

Who fights your nightmares and rights your fairy tales?
Can we help you sleep Momma

Floating

I.

No moon to brighten
The night which has become me
Just darker than death

II.

A Secret Flower
Floating unseen silent, lovely
No scent to give up

III.

But when she lands
The world will crash around us
But only for a time

Emerald Eyes

And there he stood like a statue
The silence dropping like a stone
As if talking to a ghost the icon remained
Ever passive, Forever frozen
Like a tourist at the galleria, the speaker moved on
In a world of hear and now. instant text and instant news
Where the games talk and the pictures move
How could the statue keep their interest
With features fixed in granite, and eyes set with emeralds
Intricate designs, the closest to a soul you can find
But if only the tourist looked closer
If only he had those child-like eyes of awe and wonder
He would have seen the spark of life
The way the light caught the emerald eyes
If only Emerald Eyes weren't staring at a statue

Luna's Lunatic

Holding hands as we walk between headstones
Feeling like a cyclone trapped in a gemstone
Emotions materialize like amber in the concrete
Personified Hellfire and brimstone, turning birthstones to bloodstones

Laughing like a psycho as she leaves me hallow
So I bestow a craked skull to Apollo
I did it just to watch the sun bleed
Luna delivers the deathblow, as I sit on his throne like a pharaoh

Luna's Lunatic, her faithful fanatic
A simple spell, potent potion I become frantic
Kill the light, slay the day, bleed the holy man
A little lunar lust and I become manic

Fighting sanity as the moon begins to rise
A deathly omen of genocidal demise
Howls fill the night, a nocturnal death knell
Last breath, final wish as I gently close your eyes

Angel of Bellicose

She said, I was her little angel
But over the years I found
Bloodied halos and swords of fire
I was not, the angel you sent to play savior
The decimation of Sodom, the leveling of Gomorrah
The materialization of artistic achievement
I was created, when God spilled vials of wrath
The bloodied mist from Heaven
Swirling and condensing
I formed, from left over God particles from Satan's chemistry set
I swore, that I would seek justice
But it seemed justice didn't give a damn about me
We fought, for greater goods and lesser evils
Until the evils reckon, leading to my reckoning
I fell, cast from the realms of my creation
Shredded wings sibilant like steam as I plummet
I became, a beautiful beast bound beneath Barzakh
A bloodied bane blessed with the bizarre brilliance
Sight and genius, bringing balance beyond discretion
Angling the scales, shattering the saint of the meek

I Was a Poet

Ink stains have become our blood stains
When the pen becomes more violent than machine gun fire
I was a poet
I goosestep language to do what my heart says
To emancipate emotions I didn't know I had
I was a poet
But now, I've evolved beyond it
Theraputic wordsmith, I reconcile your realities
Literary blacksmith, my words are no longer figments for you to ponder
I was a poet
I could write a verse to take the sun away
Leave you in an abyss to slowly decay
I was a poet
Able to pen a love so rare, you'd think it was only yours
I can reinvent your fairy tales or I can douse them in kerosene
I was a poet...once

Tears For Reflections Past

It happened fast, like a camera flash
Next I know she tip toes across my heart strings
She dances across it
Brief like mistletoe, awkward like middle school
Steppin on toes, her laugh turns hollow
Simple tune and my fears prove true
As the Celestial turns Demonic
And I rip
The stars from the sky for ammunition
Another part of my childhood turns victim
Another grave stone to mark a failed expectation
I scream in the memories
I shed tears for reflections past
Another smile built as an ashtray
Another shot and my sight goes amber
I was once the glass menagerie staring through the looking glass
Pressure cooked and shattered, eyes turned to broken glass
All I see are nightmares and faded dreams
As I hide in sleep simply to reminisce
As I saunter through my scar garden

This Is Halloween

Today we can live like jack and sally
Halo of bones as we fly the cemetery
Smoke inhaled exhaled as petal ghost
Wilt and dissipate its what we do most
Listen as the kids scream
"This is Halloween"
But does anyone care
A different mask then what you always wear
A different costume than you pretend to be
Nothing but a reflection of hopes and dreams
Flitter from orange to black
And just led it fade
Fade to black so I cant see
What mask I fit on today
Will i be the hero
Someone i want to see in the mirror
Or will i be the villain
Selling coke aiming for killing
Why is the hardest mask to put on
I said why is the hardest mask to put on our own face
The one your mother sees
Shouldn't it be easy to place
But we're just scared people
Scared of each other
Scared of ourselves
Is this all were meant to be
The faceless face trying to give a voice to the voiceless
Or can we transcend the eulogy
Angel wings our humble apology
Showing we have more soul to give
More soul to give
Another shot of liquid courage
As we sing the new song of our age
The killswitch is not engaged
We are no lamb of god
We are god
When you put your mask on
When you wear someone else's face
Let me show you
Let me bring out the real you
