Poetically Defined

I write in rhyme, to depict how I feel inside
feelings I'd otherwise conceal in my mind
In this race against time, we all hope that we can shine
but I'm less concerned with that, as I am just getting by
It's never been about winning awards or a prize
it's about letting go of all that's eating me alive
it's a way to explain things I've been known to hide
it's my way to escape pain I'm prone to disguise
but some times, when I just can't describe
what's behind these eyes of mine
tears will imply what my smile will deny
and that's the fact that I'm just dying inside
So in the event of my demise
this is my chance to be poetically defined
and may my teardrops punctuate the end of every line.

Absence of Light

There is a darkness in my life,
a forecast of torrential rain that drowns my heart with sorrow,
and its gloom clouds my mind,
washing away any hope for tomorrow,

This darkness overshadows me,
eclipsing whatever light that remains within my soul,
and the more I try to fight it,
the less I feel in control,

Tears spill onto my cheeks,
tracing the outlines of a smile seldom shown,
as I sit alone in this cave of a home,
hidden from the world and hardening like stone,

It's as if I'm dying inside,
trapped within the confines of an epidermis tomb,
while my cries for help echo through the barrenness of my existence,
resonating with apprise of my impending doom,

But in this aphotic zone in the depths of my core,
my words are a sconce on the walls of my heart,
illuminating the halls of my soul,
so that others may navigate their way through the dark.

Nightfall

Whenever life gets too hard and you feel like falling apart,
seek shelter in my arms,
find comfort in my heart,
and when night falls,
I'll sit with you in the dark,
and we'll make friends with the moon and the stars

And when the sun finally rises and shines light on your scars,
don't be afraid to show the world who you are,
you may not have made it to where you're going,
but you've made it this far,
and I'll be there to lead you out from the dark

Wish

By branches of the Tanabata,
to the waters of the Trevi,
on the wall of the Virgin,
or in stars of the sky,
I will wish for thee,
in purest form,
that I find,
you here,
Love.

Dream Catcher

Rest awhile,
the day is at its end and you feel broken,
and as tomorrow too seems hopeless,
I will open up my arms to hold you,
so close your eyes,
pillow me,
I'll be your dreamless slumber,

I'll revise your revile,
spill your secrets to the moonlight,
kiss goodnight the tears worth while,
and carry you through dawn,
but if you tomorrow too should crumble,
do so within my arms,
so you don't lose a piece of who you are,
then close your eyes,
pillow me,
I'll be your dreamless slumber

Piece of Me

I can still feel the weight of the heat colliding with my face as I first stepped off the plane,
And how beads of sweat would tickle my neck the same as when it rained,
How the harsh odor of the atmosphere would nauseate my nose,
And the courage of a people despite our impose,

I hear the splashing of the Tigris as I kneel to rinse my hands,
And how it felt to think that nothing’s promised, even on promised lands,
From wailing sirens and the buzz of the Phalanx at night,
To the popping of shots and the whooshing of helos in flight,

From the honking of horns and roads without lanes,
To swishing through traffic and the jingling of chains,
I hear the whispers of prayer being broadcast through the air,
And the murmurs of locals and their unwelcomed stares,

To the thuds of percussions from bombs in my chest,
Detonated afar but still rattled my vest,
But of all that I remember, I’m fully aware,
That I've lost a piece of me there.

Where You'll Be

I don't want to chase down the sun on the beach,
I don't need to stand in the sand with the ocean at my feet,
I don't care to stare into where the water and atmosphere meet,
if it's not where you'll be

Sleep is still sleep even without the promise of a dream,
but why shoot for stars if the moon doesn't dance in their gleam,
I s'pose my hands will never know how far my arms can reach,
if it's not where you'll be

I'll never set sail in the billow of a breeze,
looking down upon the crown onto a canopy of trees,
the song my heart may sing will forever be off-key,
if it's not where you'll be

Whisper

At night while you are sleeping,
I whisper softly into your ear,
I tell how much I love you,
but all there is for me to fear,
I say someday I'll show you,
what I long for you to feel,
but until that day has come,
I'll whisper softly into your ear

Maybe In Heaven

I know it's been a while, since we've spoken last
but I got to thinking 'bout you, sifting through old photographs
sitting and reminiscing, making wishes on pictures
hoping only for a minute, we were kids again

we'll always be siblings, but we were friends then
and even with the distance, you're still my closest kin
if I could hold you now, I'd never let you go again
I hope you hear the condolence, in the words that I wrote this with

'cause someday, I hope our family's whole again
just because our home was broken, doesn't mean our hearts can't mend
so if not today, then maybe in a better place
maybe in Heaven we'll have more to say

I think about our time lost, the pain I've caused
and all the burdens, my ego and pride brought
am I better off, or is it my loss
my God, what if it's my fault

maybe I'm the reason, that my family fell apart
could I have held them together, if only I was strong
may I do what I couldn't do, while alive, now that I'm gone
and bring them all back together, cry along in song

letting bygones be bygones, shoulders you can cry on
if in your heart is where I belong, then I am never gone
life is too short, to always right the wrongs
sometimes it's best, just to take it with a grain of salt

and move forward, there's so many more important ways
to measure oneself, than your portions of misfortune
it's unfortunate, you incorporate your hate in place of faith
and never take the time, to appreciate all you have today

but anyway, I just wrote this to say
I love you and I miss y'all, and without you it just ain't the same
so one day, maybe in a better place
maybe in Heaven we'll have more to say

Fall

For as long as I can remember
I've never looked ahead,

I've always walked with my head down
so I could place every step,

I've often been too cautious
to keep up in the race,

and though I fell behind
I've never fallen out of place,

I've never held on to anything when I sensed any doubt
and I've never let go of anything I couldn't live without,

I've never shown a smile I thought could be turned to a frown
and I've never stood up when I could've been knocked down,

I've never given up my heart without the exchange of another
and I'll never love care-free without the same from the other,

Because I've always been too afraid to fall for all I had to lose
I've always been too afraid to fall, except in love with you
