Everyone Has To Go

If you were looking for me
I had to go.
God was calling you see
and I couldn't say no.
Don't be sad
it's a happy day.
Just be glad
we had yesterday.
We had some fun
and we had some laughs.
But it's not done.
Not by half.
God called me
but I'm still here.
You just can't see
but I'm with you dear.
I'll be watching over you
and I'll love you forever.
So what ever you do
don't ever say never.
I'll see you again.
God told me so.
Good-bye now my friend.
Everyone has to go.

Footprints Revisited

I once had a dream that I was walking by the sea.
You were in it to Lord as You walked along with me.

We were watching scenes of my life as they flashed across the sky.
You told me how much you loved me as we talked there, You and I.

You said You would always be there and I felt so good inside.
We left two sets of footprints that disappeared with the tide.

Then some thing disturbed me as it came into the light.
When things got bad in my life there was only one set of footprints in my sight.

Lord You told me that You loved me and all I had to do was believe.
Why is it Lord that when things got so bad that you would turn and leave?

My precious, precious child You said that is something I would never do.
When you saw only one set of footprints that is when I carried you.

Broken Bones

My dreams appear as nightmares.
Delusions I am told.
A taste of bittersweet memories
from a past that's getting old.

A past that's rushing past me
and will not deliver the mail.
An ex-mailman with a future
that's now crawling like a snail.

Digesting my lifes horrors
is how I once made my bed.
Chewing on the substance
of a future left for dead .

Memories like invaders
attack me in a dream.
So real I can't awaken
before I slip inside a scream.

Why should I care
just how my bed was made?
Gather all my broken bones
at the open mouth of the grave.

No Sympathy From the Devil

A hurricane is blowing.
Cars are flying in the sky.
Doesn't even mess my hair.
It's coming from my eye.

An earthquake is rolling.
Knocks you right off your feet.
The earth opens up and swallows.
I just take my seat.

A tidal wave is coming.
It's right off the coast.
I watch the people sunning.
Don't they know that their all toast?

The great white shark devours
everything in his sight.
Why is everybody screaming?
They haven't felt my bite.

The sunlight unheeded
sets the cancer to the flesh.
Chaos all around you.
The evils seem to mesh.

The cancer has consumed
the skin down to the bone.
There's no one left to cry to
so just hang up the phone.

An avalanche like a freight train
is rolling down the hill.
If you haven't felt me yet
I'll be coming for you still.

Do you know who I am?
The Stones sung of my name.
I don't want your sympathy.
I'm the one to blame.

Can you feel the twister?
The wind, like the dogs, howl.
Time to raise the white flag.
Time to throw in the towel.

Watch as the whirlpool
sucks you down into the depths.
Take your choice my friends.
Choose your epitaph.

My Mom

Dear God, how did You sleep.
I had a dream and it made me weep.
Did You see it, it was so real.
I think it might even help me heal.

Anyway that dream last night
sure was kind of cool.
Except for the times
I acted the fool.

I was a whole lot younger
then I am now.
I was talking with my mom
and I was wondering how?

We sat at the kitchen table
and she had on that grin.
The one that always told me.
I know where you've been.

I could talk to her
about anything I ever did.
Not only when I grew up
But since I was a little kid.

She was the only one
on this whole entire earth.
Who made me feel like I belonged.
Who gave me a sense of worth.

We talked for hours.
We laughed and we cried.
I didn't leave the table
till the day that she died.

It was a roller coaster ride
of every high and low I could feel.
Then Lord You got out the projector
and then You put on the reel.

We watched home movies
and most of it was good.
You would fast forward
those parts that you should.

There was this one scene
where Jesus had a part.
Remember when I asked for Him
to come into my heart?

On a scale of 1 to 10
I would give it a ten.
But there was this one time
I don't remember when??

When I asked for Jesus to come into my heart
He walked right in like He belonged.
But what I didn't know then
was that He walked in with my mom.

The Bitterness

Lord Jesus, I have a prayer
and I want You to hear it.
I really need Your love
and I need the Holy Spirit.
There is really one thing
that You can do for me.
Help me go way back.
Deep in my memory.
Help me remember the hurt
and help me remember the pain.
Help me remember how it felt
and help me remember from where it came.
Release me from these chains.
Help me crawl out of this hole.
Heal me Lord Jesus,
from what the bitterness stole.
I lost so many years
that I will always regret.
Take away the pain and hurt.
I want to forgive and forget.
I also ask You, oh Lord,
as You return what I lost.
Help me remember also
all the pain that I caused.
Is there anyone I hurt.
Someone I'm not even aware.
Help me remember them Lord.
I need to show them I care.
Let them know that I'm sorry
for everything that I've done.
Please God, I ask their forgiveness
in the name of Your Son.
If there's anyone I've hurt,
Jesus, please help me to understand
that I need to heal that hurt
that was done at my hand.
I ask to be forgiven Lord,
and I pray You help me forgive.
I want to turn the pain and hurt into love,
so I can finally live.
Bitterness creates an empty heart
and as you pray to the Father above,
say, "Jesus please take our empty hearts
and fill them up with Your love.

The Words a Heart Can Bleed

First I get out a piece of paper
and think of words I want to right.
Then I'll get my pencil
and the pencil takes a bite.
It scratches and it claws
the words here that you read.
Have you ever read
the words a heart can bleed?
Like Noah it keeps raining
and I'm caught up in the flood.
Can you read my rain
when it's written in red blood?
It's dripping from this pencil.
It's coming from my soul.
The pain of my addiction
is climbing out of it's hole.
It climbs up on my shoulder
from a pit that's deep and black.
It looks just like a monkey
and it hangs out on my back.
It whispers in my ear.
It screams if I don't listen.
He says,"screw the rent
you don't need a pot to piss in."
He's getting really heavy.
I don't know what to do.
Why can't I tell him, no.
I don't know how, do you?
My monkey needs more drugs
like a rat wants more cheese.
I heard that feeding the monkey
is always a fatal disease.
Someone shoot the monkey
before my soul is lost as well.
I never seem to have enough money.
I do things I'll never tell.
Lord, You know me
and You made me see
the darkness consuming everything
I wanted to be.
I'm sorry I ever let
it come this far.
Blaming a monkey shows me
how bad my choices are.
I'm growing old
but not growing up.
Makes me sick
Feel like throwing-up.
Selfishness hides from me
but dwells deep inside.
I wish that I could see me
but I guess I'm blind.
With Your help God
I'll make it through.
Straight is the path
that leads to You.
One more thing before
my foggy mind forgets.
I think that I should
work the steps.
I'm stepping up to the plate
God throws the pitch.
Bean ball to the head of the monkey
now he can't bitch.
I'm excited to get started
without the monkey around.
Please don't let me trip on these steps
and come crashing to the ground.
I heard you shouldn't go fast.
You should be thorough and slow.
Fast or slow I still go up.
The bottom has only one place to go.

Friends Forever

Suffice it to say I knew you before
you and I became so much more.
You started out as my best friend.
I started loving my life again.
We laughed and cried both with tears.
You helped put an end to all my fears.
Suddenly I realized I loved you so
I told you and you said," I know."
I feel the same you said to me.
But just being friends lets us be free.
Lets enjoy each other I don't want it to end.
Love destroys the fabric of being a friend.
Jealousy will arive and hate will come too.
The end of a friendship is I love you.
I reluctantly agreed but you were so clever.
This thing that we share makes us friends forever.

My Friend Jim Beam

My Friend Jim Bean

The highway signs go by so fast.
The whole damn night had been a blast.
There's a red light chasing behind me
and wouldn't you know it I could barely see.
Driving blind drunk and all over the road.
It's amazing how much your skills erode.
I was drinking all night at the local bar.
Should have called a taxi but I was driving my car.
I was dancing with a girl who had a perfect ass.
When I thought about her it made me step on the gas.
At first I thought this must be a bad dream.
But there between my legs was my friend Jim Beam.
I grabbed that bottle and took a big swig
and ole Jim convinced me I could ditch this pig.
Took a quick turn down a one way street
when I saw something ahead I didn't want to meet.
Right in front of me someone turned on the brights.
It was an 18 wheeler and I was in his headlights.
Right before we hit I made the car swerve.
Barely got around him when I hit a hair-pin curve.
Slammed on the brakes and started spinning around.
Must have looked like my car was a merry-go-round.
Didn't hit a thing and when I came to a stop.
My thoughts once again returned to ditching that cop.
I even yelled something stupid like you'll never catch me copper.
But I almost gave up when I thought I saw a helicopter.
The cop chasing me must have freaked when he saw that truck.
Probably thought he was dead but you wouldn't believe his luck.
He drove right into a ditch and got launched into the air
and I felt so helpless all I could do was stare.
It looked like a helicopter his car in the sky.
The way it looked to me was he was gonna die.
I thought about his family and got real upset.
If he died I knew God wouldn't let me forget.
Only a miracle could keep him from harm.
Then I noticed his car was headed straight for this barn.
Right up in the hayloft is where his car went
and it landed real nice without a scratch or a dent.
Cop was hooting and hollering when he got out of his car.
Screaming something about being a shooting star.
Before I pulled out I gave him a honk and a wave.
Thanking the Lord I didn't have to put flowers on his grave.
