After

I took a bath
And gently held my breath
To see where from you came

My caesarian scar
Bore the moment you were taken from me
So suddenly, to release us both from pain

I signed a sheet
At 6am, gas and air
Still reeling in my bed

I am surprised my signiture
Bore intelligent reading
God knows I was out of my head

Yet the 12 hour labour
Saw a name on paper
Written so clear and true

I had done my best my dear daughter
But in the end, I had to give my consent
For others to bring your life to you

The journey to the theatre
Felt so short
And yet so long

A crowd of people
Were around us
They even put music on

I cried to them
Is the pain going to stop now
Is that needle our way home

Within seconds
Your journey was interupted
But you were never on your own

I wondered what you must of felt
Travelling on this journey
So sure you would make it through

And suddenly as you get a step further
The whole experience is stopped
And suddenly you have no more to do

Your tiny body is eased out
As you struggle to make sense
Of what is happening and why

You are in the world now
Not the way we planned
And heartbroken, I don't hear you cry

Instead placed in their arms
This tiny face reaches mine
So wide awake and not a tear on display

Your beautiful blue eyes
Seemed to tell me in an instant
Don't worry Mummy, I made it ok....

Love Has No Age Limit

Never let your life become mundane
Whatever you have witnessed
There are more wonders to see

Life has barely read a chapter
So turn over the page and as you do
Look carefully and it will set you free

Age doesn't make you any less a child
Your eyes have been open longer
But no less susceptible to awe

Love has an ageless soul
So let your heart cave in
See life's beauty and love once more

March Garden..

A sole bagpiper
Waits to perform
For another soul
This must of been his last wish
Old comrades occupy
A well trodden path
And bid him farewell
What they must think of us
Standing in the cold
Shivering
Waiting for Mum
We didn't know
Knocking on that door
Would see another life
Pass before our eyes
A kind gentleman
Comes out
'Someone is coming to see to you'
A door closes
Left outside again
Not even a room
To wait in
The cold rain seemed insessent
It wasn't going to stop
My hands were turning blue
I knew in that instant
Mum would be saying to me
'You don't eat enough to warm you
So much like me, so much like you
A gentleman approaches
Softly spoken
Carrying you in his arms
Wrapped all nice and warm
I want to carry you
Like you carried me
Keep you close to my heart
Keep you safe
The March garden approaches
We are given private time
Nobody can utter a word
Dad lays you into your beautiful resting place
And suddenly this little jar
Comes out from my pocket
And urges to catch you
Dad acknowledges my asking
And into that little jar
The heart of you falls
To stay with me forever
I quietly close the lid
And put you in my pocket
Never again for us to be apart

Childlike Attendance..

My innocence
Sometimes
Turns me to stone
When in the wanted
Comfort of your crying eyes

I have longed to see your heart
Turn itself inside out
To see it all disjointed
Like a new born
A jigsaw for my trying

I wanted this
Yet in the midsts
Of broken pieces
I struggle
To make the picture perfect
For you

You send me a postcard
I read it well
Take your hand
And make a playful
Gesture

My childlike attendance
Doesn't seem to tender
It is not what you need
It is not want you hoped for
I have let you down

Have I been too warn down?
By tragedy and pain
Has my emotion
Gone so far back on itself
I know longer understand when I am needed...

Tea Cakes and Coffee Breaks

Monday morning coffee break
Everyone seems ill at ease
To be back working from eight to five

It almost seems the order of the day
For people to sit down and dissect human nature
Just to keep themselves alive

'Did you see what she was wearing'
'Did you hear what she said'
Its all par for the course I'm afraid

I sit amongst lives
Happy to critise others
Rather than face the mistakes they might of made

The business of bitchiness
Has me reaching for my quiet room
Begging for a sun that wakes

To bring me solace and freedom
From whisperers and secrets
On Tea cakes and Coffee breaks

Black Dog

Ahh and so if surfaces
The black dog
The evil lerking soul
Like a precipice
That cracked mirror
It drags me towards
And dares
Look at you hideous beast
'I dare look and see'
'What now the terror of my being'
'What do you want me to do'
'Come on I say with a handful of pills'
It smiles and snarls and moves its body
Like a dog about to strike
It smiles
'Not today, I wouldn't waste even my time on you'...

I'Ll Be There At the End With You

From the very beginning
Pinching myself
Didn't seem to make it more true

Standing infront of me
Was my whole life
I knew my journey was with you

So long alone
Winding roads that made no sense
Until you decided to tag a ride

We could talk for hours and hours
Little by little I began to see
Getting lost is beautiful with you by myside

We were almost strangers
A quick hello
A passing smile, you just don't realise

Years later
When you first kissed me
I could see our child in your eyes

When you know
You know
For all they say, it is true

I know my darling
From the young love we have been
To the old and grey holding hands

I'll be at the end with you...

I Dropped a Tear In the Ocean

I sent a wish to the sky
When the heart is weakening
You will give anything a go

I asked for an angel
To hold my head when it hurt
Who could love me so

I lifted my head in the rain
Harrowing to view
To me it was beautiful and free

I walked out into the dark night
Into the small hours
When nobody was looking for me

I was given all my broken pieces
And told to account for every part
And throw them back into a sea of blue

I dropped a tear in the ocean
The tide threw me a lifeline
The day I found you....

Amidst the Fight..

Even holding her hand
Her want in me
To say something adult and profound

Find me the little girl
She fought hard to chase
When she ran all around

Can't take my eyes
From her beautiful finger tips
How her nails are beautifully grown

Is this because I can't look at her face
Afraid to see cancer's skin
Making itself so known

I grasp my daughter in my arms
Come and see nana
Come and say hello

I can barely speak
But in my heart I am shouting
Mummy, please don't let go

I don't show a tear
Emotion seems far left
I don't know why

Protective barrier in place
Of all the people in this world
It's for my Mum I want to cry

I see the fight is still on
She moans about the cricket coverage
And smiles when I make a joke or two

I kiss her forehead tenderly
Begging, begging, begging
Take from me, what it takes to get you through

Mum, my heart started and stops
With you...

Wrens On Crocus

Each flower she meets
Is forgiving of the intrusion
The uncertain rustling
Such is the need
When to need is to exist
