The Narrow Gate

I am lost
	a blind wanderer
	fear-driven
	and empty.

I leave a mark
	in minds
	that flee
	and disappear.

I talk to death
	that travels
	and roams
	endlessly.

I meet God’s angels
	who guide me
	with light,
	my path
	empty upon their
	discovery.

I am lost
	a blind wanderer
	I create trails
	for those behind me,
	break down
the walls in front of me,
	and confuse
	those around me.

I walk blindly into temptation
	like a child walks into
	the teeth of the devil,
	barricaded in a fortress
	eating the walls
	to escape.

My breath trembles
	for the guidance
	of angels.

I am barren and invisible
	but I whisper a prayer
	out of my inner hope.

Where everyone
	dies alone
	and roaming demons
	capture unknowing souls,
	a defeat led
	by the marching blind
	in eternal darkness
	and left
	forever
	in death.

I am lost
	a blind wanderer
	I crawl through catacombs
	of dying men,
	I realize my sin
and cry out for God’s hand of forgiveness.

I am found
	the newborn wanderer
	I see my life
	as something
	renewed and secure
	as something
	forever in God’s arms
	I see my death
	as something
	initiating my new life
	innocent and fulfilled
	I see my God
	as someone
	who gave His only son
	so I could have
	eternal life.

Deluge

You’re the dark cloud that hovers over me,
Blocking out the sun, leaving no light to see,
Bringing down the rain to drown, you cry,
Burying me under the earth’s lifeless sky.

Your nothingness consumes my heart,
Beginning at the end, ending at the start,
Leaving everything lost in my mindless thought,
Drowning my eyes with your endless drought.

Your waterless rain overwhelms my breath,
Leaving no room for pain or death,
Disappearing into life’s infinite air,
Feeling no hope, you’re gone, the despair.

You’re the one I miss, the only one I love,
Flying beyond reach, come back my perfect dove.

Upon Their Broken Shoulders

Through their unselfishness
They fight for our rights
Never giving up
Enduring the darkest of nights

As they continue to fight
We angrily protest
Yet still they fight on
Never asking for rest

They struggle to live on
While we safely sit here
They die to protect us
Giving us no reason to fear

They fight out of love
For us and our country
They ask for nothing back
Fighting for us to remain free

Never do we remember
As today turns into tomorrow
What they have provided us
Only thinking of our sorrow

These guardians are our heroes
They die in their ranks
Yet never do we give them
A well-deserved thanks

Always remember the men and women
Who are known as our soldiers
For giving us a foundation
Upon their broken shoulders

Obscurity

Forget all tales of love,
But listen to a love that flees,
She a heart of darkness,
And he a light that sees.

He was a bright sunshine,
Concerned with an earthen glow,
Full of neverending happiness,
And all of love to show.

He made it through the day,
Hoping for her coming night,
Fading beyond the horizon,
And losing his inner light.

But the darkness flooded the earth,
And drove everything away,
And tomorrow unexpectedly came,
A lightless rainy day.

Rapture

I will fall asleep and dream of a place often forgotten
And drift off into a realm of angels and gold;
A single pathway leads there, rarely ever trodden
Existing in a city where age is never old.

The rain drops stream down, saturated with life
Filling the hearts around them with everlasting love
Burying in the meadows all discord and strife
And clouds full of light, hovering weightlessly above.

I will fall asleep and dream of a place void of night;
I feel the warmth of the sun embracing my heart
While I soak up the affection of the light
Glowing with joy and praise from an undeserved new start.

Timepiece

The clock never falters
Until its life dies
Replacing its batteries
And again time flies

The hands never stop
Ticking by so fast
Erasing all memories
Beating away our past

The numbers never change
They’re always the same
Rhythmically proceeding
Forgetting our shame

Time is a story
Told by a clock
Whispering inside us
Throughout life’s walk

Abscond

I’ll make my own decision to leave or stay
Pack my bags, leave the love, I’ll walk away
I can see your eyes fill with tears and your heart turn cold.

Got my mind on hold, I can see you weep
Then I heard you cry, wave your arms at me
It’s a lifelong pain when love turns away.

I won’t be coming back, you’re all alone
You’ve lost track, no one will know
No one will ever love me nearly as much as you.

Got a brand new heart, threw the old one out
Wore it with no regret, not a single pout
I lost your face in the memories of old.

Like a long lost hero in a fairy tale
Watched your fragile love break and your heart set sail
It’s a lifelong pain when love turns away.

I won’t be coming back, you’re all alone
You’ve lost track, no one will know
No one will ever miss me nearly as much as you.

If you can’t watch your back, love will hold you tight
You’ve lost track, no path in sight
No one will ever hate me nearly as much as you.
