A Summer's Day

A summer’s day is like a dream,
The sun that shines, the flowing stream.
The bird’s that sing their summer song,
A perfect day that last’s so long.

But not so long, for when night fall’s,
The cool dark breeze, the wild life calls.
Owl’s awake to find their prey,
The moon’s their sun, the night their day.

And so the darkness turn’s to light,
Another day bid’s good bye to night.
The grass is warmed by the sun’s bright ray,
Another dreamy summer’s day.

My Daughters Wedding Day

December twentieth two thousand and three,
A day to remember in my memory.
The day that my daughter, the light of my life,
Will walk down the aisle, to become someone’s wife.

And I shall be proud as I walk by her side,
The father of such a beautiful bride.
The groom will be waiting, best man by his side,
And lips will be bitten, eyes trying not to cry.

Vows they will both make “I do “both will say,
On this, my daughters wedding day.
Proud we’ll both stand, her mother and me,
And remember the time that they were we.

Fathers Day

Father's Day is here again,
And with it comes the yearly pain.
The kind of pain not all will feel,
But pain they say that time will heal.

How much pain no one can say,
A month, a year, or many a day.
But time alone is all it takes,
To ease the pain that sadness makes.

If your dad's no longer here,
Just spare a thought, don't shed a tear,
But look above and softly say,
Love you dad on this .. Your day.

'For all dads no longer here'

Memory Lane

I watched a man walk down a lane,
I saw his face I knew his name.
He saw me too he waved and smiled,
I stopped and thought, just for a while.

I thought of times spent as a child,
Through winters bleak and summers mild.
Playing out with all my friends,
Not wanting childhood to ever end.

But end it did I became a man,
I got a job and made a plan.
And as plans go it was the best,
I found true love and made a nest.

And in this nest my love and i
Watched our babies grow and fly
And fly they did to start their life,
My daughter her husband, my son and his wife.

A voice then whispered “Good bye son”
I turned around the man was gone.
I closed my eyes to ease my pain
Had i just seen my dad again?

Some may say it’s not so strange
To see my dad walk down a lane.
But they don’t know he passed away
Some years ago on Christmas day

Shane

A young man died and his family cried, they could not understand,
Why he was taken away from them on that day when life seemed ever so grand.

It just goes to show that you’ll never know, what will happen, when, where or how,
But what if you did, would you change things you said, would you put on a different show.

Or would you still be for all eyes to see the person that you always were.
A shoulder to cry on, someone to rely on, someone who was always there.

Someone once said you’re alive til your dead, never a truer word spoken,
But when you die young, songs are unsung and a million hearts become broken

I heard today of someone snatched away, someone who was one of my own
But I was unaware no one seemed to care or think to pick up the phone.

A families bond is supposed to be strong, so strong that it should never break
In times of gladness and even of sadness it’s our duty an effort to make.

An effort I say, it should not be that way it’s much deeper it’s something in built,
To pick up the phone or visit my home then there’s no need for feelings of guilt.

When families lose touch it shouldn’t take much to reunite with one another,
Cousin or nephew, niece, aunty or uncle and sometimes even sister and brother.

You just do not know when it’s your time to go so remember these words don’t forget
Because if you do you may one day too be filled with the deepest regret.

Happy Birthday Dad

Happy Birthday Dad
Thats what i'd say,
If only i could,
If there was a way.

To hear your voice
To see your smile,
To sit with you
For just a while.

Thers lots of things
I'd like to say,
If only i could,
If there was away.

Instead i'll just look
Into the dark starry night,
Happy birthday Dad,
Sleep ever so tight.

Roadside Bouquets

Driving along the roads of today,
You can’t help but see as you go on your way.
Beautiful roadside bouquets in full bloom,
A teddy that should be, in a child’s bedroom.
This sign of the times can be seen everywhere,
You can’t help but look, you stop and you stare.
Your thoughts are with people you have never met,
Saddness fills your heart, you’ll never forget.
But you will forget as you move away,
The flowers, the teddy, which you’ve seen today.
The sadness that filled your heart with such pain,
Will vanish until you arrive once again.
At the corner, the straight, the narrow winding lane,
These roadside bouquets are without refrain.
That is until we all shall take heed,
And finally reduce our driving speed.

I Love You

DO YOU EVER WONDER WHY,
BABY BIRDS LEARN HOW TO FLY.
IS IT BECAUSE ONE DAY THEY KNOW,
THAT THEY WILL NEED TO WHEN THEY GROW.
COS LIKE ALL BABIES YOU MAY HAVE GUESSED,
THEIR TIME WILL COME TO LEAVE THE NEST.
OUR BABIES GREW AND THEIR TIME CAME,
TO FLAP THEIR WINGS AND DO THE SAME.
HOW PROUD WE WERE BOTH YOU AND I,
AS WE WATCHED OUR BABIES LEARN TO FLY.
THIS POEM IS WRITTEN WITH LOVE FROM MY HEART,
AS A THANKYOU TO YOU FOR PLAYING YOUR PART.
IN MAKING MY LIFE COMPLETE AND I DO,
HONESTLY, TRULY, DEEPLY LOVE YOU.

WRITTEN WITH LOVE FOR MARIE XXXXXX

Today

What is happening to the world today?
Where people aren’t safe as they go on their way,
What has happened to trust and belief?
Where you dare not walk on your own down the street.

Gone are the days of “good morning” good night”,
Now we have day’s of “whose there?” fuelled with fright.
Our children can’t play as they did once before,
We dare not let go because we’re not sure.

How can they grow up to be trusting and kind?
When we open the papers each day just to find.
That some one somewhere has taken a life,
And violence and crime appear to be rife.

It’s just not fair it has to be said,
We should feel at ease at night in our bed.
Instead we just worry we hope and we pray,
That the world will some how be safer one day.

Text Rose

If I had a rose I’d send it to you,
From my heart to yours, cos our love is true.
But roses don’t last they fade and then die,
Not like the love we share you and I,
So this is my rose, a text to your phone,
To open and read when you feel alone,
Just so you know I’ll always love you,
Wherever we go, whatever we do xxx
