Smile
Joanna davis

A smile can bring a breath of fresh air
to a heart that’s been broken
or a soul in despair

A smile needs no sound
‘NO YOU DON’T HAVE TO SHOUT’
Sometimes your mouth will open
and you teeth shine out

A smile is infectious
just look and see...
I think you’ve just caught
that crater from me!...

I like to cuss sometimes
ok, more like many times
when seems the hooty-toots
need bringin' down.

I'm not scared of you
and I'll trump your charm in that
I'll ride your yacht and eat
all your peanut butter, too.

Wiggle my teeth atcha
your kindness I'll never forget.

It's just me, you know
the one you love so

is livin' it as if
I'd never met you.

Soul Food
Bagels and baguettes
Bap or fried bake,
The fruits of the flour
are easy to make

Chollah, chapatti,
Cinnamon bun.
These global delights,
make eating such fun.

Filled with Caribbean sweet meat
like Guava jam,
Scottish smoked salmon;
Or Danish roast ham.

Add a fresh fruit salad,
Some sparkling wine,
A candle, red roses and
you’re ready to dine.

Eyes
EYES

Its the window to the body
Where the soul is housed.
My eyes:
Seen the hard & tough times
Witnessed the joy & pain...
Of self, loved ones & frienemies
Seen darkness you could ever imagine.
And the illumination
That finally transform
This embodiment of grace.
What this two witnesses dost behold,
The rags of time hath sharpened the whole.

I Could Be a Whore
I could be a whore
if I had the chance
if I couldn’t write, or I couldn’t dance

I could be a whore,
if I were in your shoes
if I had more to gain, and far, far less to lose

I could be a whore
if I had mouths to feed
if they were sick and dying, had a greater need

I could be a whore
if I knew nothing more
if my life was blood let, behind a polished door

I could be a whore
but I’m glad I have a choice
to speak for those, who haven’t yet the voice...

Brave Heart
What do you do
when it becomes clear
the ones that you loved,
have been less than sincere?

That they plotted and watched
for your demise,
while you constantly wished for them
clear blue skies
When the love you offered
was for granted taken;
All your hopes and plans,
seem now forsaken

Do you crawl back in
that shredded skin?
Or now take time to
search deep within...
For the courage that’s been there
right from the start,
as you embark on life’s journey
with a brave new heart!...
