FOREST QUEEN
As ash the oak remembers the kiss of the flame.
Fallen branches remember the wind’s caress.
The bark is armor hardened by time.
Her leaves hum lullabies for the sun.
Beneath her boughs, the breeze begins to breathe.
She stands. She waits. She grows. She knows.
Hope I'm the only one you call Beb
Every time you go to Bed
Keep it low-key with them Blues
Or listen to my lyrical Bars
You Promised to be my only
I go keep it a hundred with you Bae
You pretty thick with some big Booty
I love everything 'bout your Body
Go put on your Bikini
Lemme take you out to the Beach
Bang you hard from the Bay
With no sweeting in its coastal Breeze

Queen Of Words
Knitted Me A Blanket
Couldn't Understand

As She Held It To My Face
Musty Soft... Well Aloft.

Rascally Words,
Just Can't Tame 'Em...
Queen Of Words:

Your Needy Desires
And Undying Will

Been to the London Stock Exchange
opened in 1571 by Elizabeth the Queen
and what's more saw the New York Big Board
the world's largest stock market ever seen
but when I took a trip to Paris
had no clue as to what to do
altho' I was educated in French
(parlez-vous?)
I believe brokers did so to discommode
as when yelling buying or selling
they communicated in Bourse code
Death walks slowly down the street
with the hood pulled way down low
ain't no sound no not even his feet
his hourglass ready to go
are you ready hey are you ready for this
are you sitting on the edge of your seat
out of the doorway the soul-scythe rips
the end prepare to meet yeah
'bomp' 'bomp' 'bomp'
another goes to the dogs
'bomp' 'bomp' 'bomp'
another falls off his log
and another one gone and another one gone
another one down the bogs
hey I'm gonna get you too
another one pops his clogs

Business as usual!
In a darkened room deep in the crowd
A familiar tune, the music’s loud
Spotlights dance around the stage
With knowing glance, I turn the page.
I see her and she’s dressed in black.
Not in person – in paperback
Will she pose for me tonight?
I hold my breath, follow the light.
Through the haze all I can see
Are models strutting purposefully.
Then I spot her walking proud
The clothes she wears delight the crowds.
Her sultry eyes and jet-black hair
All I can do is sit and stare.
If I can get my timing right
Who knows, she could be mine tonight?
Out of reach, a designer’s dream
She's a peach, the catwalk queen.
We all desire but cannot touch.
My hearts on fire she means so much.
Her picture in the magazines
Leaps from the page into my dreams
Maybe one day she’ll be mine
Then we can leave this pantomime.
Her imaginativeness was off the charts
she invented pie cake and jelly bean darts
world of whimsy she constructed was keen
as a fantasy pharaoh, she was the queen
we travelled to Saturn when we wanted to play
she lived with her purple puma and reptile named Gay
her home was engineered out of a dryer’s lost socks
she never spoke of her journey from the world of hard knocks
reinventing and reiterating fun every time we were there
quintessential hostess who displayed joyful loving care
spectacular grandma who encouraged simply everyone
especially those who had forgotten how to have fun

A Dragon's Grief
My love, he sits on mountains cold,
His dragon heart, a story told.
Not of fire, but of a past
Where happiness could never last.
I watch him now, a silent king,
A broken bird with one less wing.
He fought for us, with all his might,
To bring the dawn, to end the night.
But shadows fall, and darkness reigns,
And all that's left are bitter pains.
He weeps a tear for what we lost,
A kingdom burned, a heavy cost.
He's not the beast I knew before,
Who'd rage and fly and soar and roar.
He is a man, a broken soul,
Who's lost his way and lost his whole.
And so I stand beneath the stone,
And weep for him who weeps alone.
My love, my king, my dragon lord,
He bleeds with me, with every chord.

Popeye, the Sailor Man
a confidence trickster who always said, “I can !”
he could do any strenuous task when at sea
on land, he follicked with Queen Bea !
Once upon a time long gone …
The reigning queen let out a yawn,
And stood up from her regal throne
To trample down the hall alone
She ripped the crown from out her hair
And flung it out the window there,
It tumbled down the castle wall …
No knight or king did hear it fall
And off the ground it did bounce
The crown rolled out into a flounce,
Tumbling down into the moat
And thankfully it did not float
A queen no more and yet she smiled
Chuckling, whooping and skipping wild,
Saying goodbye to the castle rafter …
She'd found her happily ever after.
Villanelle of a Metal Queen (c) 2025 by Russ Dodson
I just don't know where else to start
to tell you of this love of mine
she is the beating of my heart
these feelings that I must decline
I just don't know where else to start
the memories both sweet and tart
hold feelings that I would enshrine
she is the beating of my heart
I wonder can I play that part
to make these treasures glow and shine
I just don't know where else to start
so soon again she must depart
to let her skills and soul entwine
She is the beating of my heart
She is a rockstar, and a large part
of the sound she helped refine
I just don't know where else to start
She is the beating of my heart
