Your Warmth: a Sailor's Tale

All is calm, all is at rest where once a storm had brew. No spray of mist, no violent torrent, nor upheaval of swelling wave to creek timbers or wash men over. There was a calmness but once before it, where I felt your warmth bring sweat to face. Your rays shining so iridescent upon the gleam of waters, it's beauty a short lasting paragon. In that time, I did ponder though not of knot nor sail, but of the feel of her soft skin and my longing to be home. The rays held but little hope as waters swallowed you whole. Your last struggle forced you red, as you sank in your defeat. What awaited in the night, a monster catching all unprepared. I wished to be home more then than ever. The clouds they gathered.. Oh did they gather, grey ominous and imposing. The winds picked up as only they did along the souths of civilization. With little warning but from you before your moment's slumber. Every man doubt filled braced for the worst, but set to task so zealous of heart, part fired by the mead barrels. The sails down turned, and ropes secured we battened for the thrashing. Late we ventured over ship, my thoughts alone on her, had she forgotten me, or found another of which I'm not at all so sure. Her letters stopped, oh they stopped.. My mind ignoring the squall. Yet faint of heart I knew the tails, this kind that take man one and every. I fought the storm out with my hand, I, tethered to a cord, so to was a storm of mind... I missed her, oh I miss her. The main mast snapped first, killing several or maiming in the least. To did follow with the mizzen, though thrown abaft unharming. The ropes securing quarter sails and rigging hung the cabin boy aloft. The battle lasted through the night, to an enemy that can't be beaten only bested. By morning, nothing lasting but shattered haul and lashings. There I lay tied to spar that I had wholly clung. Only now broken ship and bodies, the catastrophe of a sailing voyage. Time trickled by with not to eat or drink. I succumbed to sailors warning as I sipped the sea in sorrow. On her now oh my thoughts, that smile on her face. I wish I were home now more than ever. Your heat it reached me with new day.. Your warmth no longer a comfort. To home, I dream and of my past when lovers love was new. When hardships sunk one by no storm. To the sky I look to you, cursing you for being so warming. And plead case to the waves as I subside under. "to home... Carry me to her."

Glad you enjoyed it, SKAT. I love sailing, I've a soft spot for the golden age of piracy as it stands historically. Wooden ships, the way of life. Walt Whitman's "O Captain! My Captain!" is one of my favorite poems. though of course my own writing doesn't follow any real rhythm or measure and becomes long and discriptive.
