Young Leaflet
Today,
The wind brought to me a young leaflet
Plucked rudely by an unknown hand
Or by some juvenile beasts play-fighting after a rare bellyful
Or else by man in his aimless carnage
Carelessly lashing out on trees
Which knew nothing of his morning row with the missus
Who decided to call in sick at the height of her master's need
Or rather a meteorite in its blazing fall from the heavens
Happened on the helpless tree, making a carcass of this brittle leaf
What about the havoc of a sudden rainstorm?
Could it have toppled a baby leaf while leaving aged ones hanging on mother tree?
?
As the leaf floated lazily towards my feet
It awoke the words that father told me
That a young leaf may sometimes fall to the ground
Before an aged leaf
And there lives the irony of life.
