Scared to let anyone in
my frightened heart shut you out.
And though rooted deep within
love was unable to sprout.
Building walls to be alone
anxiety fed my fears.
And counting sins to atone
I suffered anguish and tears.
My outlook on life’s far view
was distorted by despair.
But focusing on what's true
I found you were always there.
When I looked into your eyes
a smile soon replaced my frown.
And just then, to my surprise
one of my walls tumbled down.
I peeked past that heap of dust,
as more walls began to tip.
And I saw a glint of trust
as my footing gained a grip.
I once thought I'd never cope
or feel what I've never felt.
But depression turned to hope,
and my heart began to melt.
Your love filled my broken heart,
and suddenly life felt right.
But you were there from the start
‘twas fear that obscured my sight.
