You Told Me So
You Told Me So
I remember you told me that relationships that start with a spark,
Always ends dim with a vivid light.
Why am I the one to experience this painful sight?
At first it was a joke, the reality of it feels like
Being stabbed in the stomach and saying "it will be okay"
You Told me so
Like a moth being too close to the light
Killed by that which you cherished most.
It was said that life is not fair
This is not just a saying, there's a meaning to it
You told me so
In order to survive in life you need to give in half of you
And not even expect a thank you.
My ignorant mind was too proud to believe
Until my naked eyes begged to be covered for relief
What I've seen is inevitably strange to the mind
You told me so
"She's just a girl, what does she know?"
Mind of an ignorant man.
I've realised being male doesn't make you tough
Admitting to reality and facing facts is more manly
Than a bearded man lifting 80 pound weights in gym
I feel like rewinding my life to where we first met
So I could undo all the things you told me not to do
Now that it's too late, only do I realise
But I'm not ashamed to say
YOU TOLD ME SO.
