Yesterday's Spring

In the dusting of the springtime I think of a long-ago place where honeysuckle wildly climbed midst delicate, white Queen Anne's lace. Days were young and golden were we like wildflowers, in tangled hues we ran with breeze, laughing and free and made our world of dreams come true in spring's mystic, daydreams are spun of happiness and childhood's play memories seen in today's sun with scented thoughts of yesterday Though roses fade and seasons flow, Childhood remains our bright tableau May 20,2023 for "In the dusting of the springtime, with scented thoughts of yesterday" poetry contest by Mystic Rose Rose

Thanks, Andrea. I write of that honeysuckle a lot because. when I was small, I would sit on the back steps by the honeysuckle and lace vines and dream. :)

Ann, your lovely poem hits upon a theme I often return to in my own writing: the rosy recollection of times and places past. We tend to remember the past out of context through the warm glow of nostalgia. I often wonder if life was better back then because I had more of it in front of me or was it because I was playing a game I didnt know the rules of?. Once I knew the rules life got harder. Sorry, Im digressing but your poem has made me think..and I love that in a poem. Thank you! Cheers - Gary

Thanks, Gary, for your thoughtful comments. It's an interesting question. I think people were kinder, more caring, or at least weren't so prone to show anger. It was just a more gentle time, when we felt safe. I think you're right: we didn't know the rules! I enjoyed our conversation! :)

in some ways, I have never left my childhood, in other ways I have, it is a place of comfort without responsibilities... good luck in Mystic's contest

Yes, freedom from care. I miss the way the world was then, we thought it would always last. Thanks for your thoughts, Frederic.
