Yerebatan Saray
echoes ring in faint obscurity
droning churns the shadows still
a merchant carriage passes unknowingly
upon cobbled streets above
as centuries are born and vanquished
Corinthian columns stand immovable
emerging from the stagnant depths
relics in exile from temples and forums
brought to buttress the vaulted ceiling
of the cistern since forgotten
pinned upon the chamber floor
beneath lifeless blackened water
Medusa peers into nothingness
blank eyes fixed forever upon oblivion
her screams unheard by the city above
