Writing

You asked the question ‘What inspired me to start to write’? The answer is simple; it was my husband’s cancer fight Never before had I picked up my pen and written a verse Hated poetry at school, oh writing it was such a curse Writing poems is now an important part of my life It takes me away from my worries, troubles and strife I can write about issues close to my heart Or create credible poems – now that's quite an art I have written various forms and am learning every day To see my name on the winners list I want to shout HOORAY But winning or losing is not that important to me Being here has set my creativity and spirit free 08~10~14 Written for Writing Contest sponsored by Regina Riddle ~awarded 1st place~

It was a long journey Seren - we knew something was wrong - after a year of getting nowhere with our hospital my husband did some research and got taken on by a university trial - their tests detected the cancer but it still took 2 biopsies and an MRI for it to be diagnosed - by then it was already at stage 2- we were so lucky - he is now cured and I have discovered I can write a poem or two - so if it wasn't for his cancer I wouldn't be here:-) Hugs Jan xxx

Jan, I, too, am glad that you have found such an outlet in writing. I wrote from my mid-twenties to my mid-forties, then did not write for about twenty years. I am finding that stuff is pouring out that I have been processing for a long time. I enjoy you and your poetry.

Dear Jan, I'm so glad writing has provided an uplifting diversion for you, especially while your husband is ill. Your poems are like joyful songs and I cherish each one I read. What a beautiful heart (and gift) you have! I'd been writing for a living when my father died. Then I took up poetry again. If you're interested in publishing a book, I may have some helpful tips. Love, Carolyn

Oh Carolyn your kind words fill my heart with pride. If it wasn't for Jenny Brewer seeing something in my poems and badgering me to join then i would never be here One day i would love to publish Lenny the Lizard and probably the other animal inspired poems I've written since then the latest being Charlie Chameleon. Sadly my dad is now terminally ill so now is not the right time to pursue my dream ... but one day I will and i would love any advice you can e mail me :-) Hugs jan xxx

Oh Tim you flatter me - I am a mere beginner and have so much to learn but I am inspired with every poem I read and write to the best of my ability, but it is more than down to fate that i am here and my life has changed so so so much for the better and having made some wonderful friends is simply the icing on the cake:-) Hugs Jan xx
