Woman To Woman
That day I came running
I had planned to tell you my African name
So you could pronounce it wrong, so I could give you an attitude
I was looking hard for reasons to hate you, I was trying hard to make you hate me
But then you came to open the door
I sensed hesitancy
You feared, you did not know what to expect
You did not know what was standing on the other side of the door
Then the door opened softly, you had that warm smile
We introduced each other
Your demeanor calmed me, I ended up wearing my best behavior
We talked about the kids
Did not say much after that, then I left
The father of my kids, the love of your life
I like the way you talk about him
I admire how you cook for him
I love the way you carry yourself
I admire the way you've made him to be
A changed man, a happy man
A responsible man, a caring man
We never had that
