Wish That Wasn'T a Lie
My naïve darling, don’t you honestly know
the sheen of your skin shames satin
your eyes limpid like those of a doe
voice sweeter than the dulcet robin
Could’ve been a bloated blatant lie
but my heart knew he was loyal and kind
If I was beautiful to his doting eye
why on earth, would I complain or mind?
Sweaty and confused, he woke me up that night
held my hand as they pushed him into ICU
"Be back before you know it, cheer up alright?"
Demurred, but believed him like I always do.
Oh!if only I'd smelled the bitter truth
if to the last lie I refused to be sold
lovingly lying lips I would've kissed
once more before they went cold
