Wisdom Is Old Age

Like a fatigued athlete he rests on a wooden chair Gazing a spot in every revealing minute As ancient thoughts roam in his word-mastered skull Wisdom is old age! He summons us the prodigal offsprings As proverb drips so is wisdom Sanctifying our hedonism slaved minds Wisdom is old age! He does say culture is value And Wisdom is the voice of an aged man Despise not your root while pursuing hedonism of modernity Wisdom is old age! "Offend not man and thou shall not be offended Fall in love but save your secrets for your security" Those are refrains creeping from his tongue True wisdom is old age and Grandpa is wise! This brings back memories of my grandpa, that i lost 2 years ago. He was the wisest man i've ever known. He couldn't read or write and had no formal education but he was a brilliant man. the lessons that he taught me about life and love will remain with me forever. Thanks for sharing this beautiful poem Joseph. Truly amazing!!!!

Wisdom truly does come with age, Joey. As a child I used to think my parents were foolish at times, but as I grew older, either they grew wiser or I just realized how smart they really were. Best wishes in Carol's contest! Love, Carolyn

Hi Osita, you have written well, I enjoyed the read. There is a flavour of Igbo proverbs and speech, though I'm not Igbo. Nice write, God bless.
