Winter's Kiss
Winter’s Kiss
By Kevin Robey
September 30, 2013
The sun will fall earlier each day
Farther away as if it were to say
Memories fall down like the leaves
Darkness surrounds, smothering me
The suicide summer comes to an end
I made it through with wounds to mend
The window will close on sunrise dreams
Smiles will hide underneath barren trees
No answers to the questions I’ve found
Fake smiles drowning without a sound
Can’t dismiss the dark abyss anymore
It shows in the truths that wash to shore
This isn’t the fire, this isn’t the pain
Don’t worry about me going insane
The darkness of winter’s ice-cold kiss
Reminds me of you and all that I miss
Writing the next chapter of a worn-out book
I flip through memories of smiles that I took
Through haunting days in cold winter storms
I found a safe place where my heart was still warm
Retreating to the last sunset off the beach in my mind
I stare straight at the sun knowing I’ll never go blind
