Wings

of

Spring

“Does the robin sing because the cold of winter is leaving or the warmth of spring is coming? Or might he be singing because each without the other would lessen both?” -- Craig D. Lounsbrough The song of hope returned last night at three A gentle trill from out my window heard My spirits rose and I was filled with glee To hear the chirp of spring’s first “early bird” My outdoor lamp cast light on his red breast His wings were still as on a shrub he sat I knew his nightly song meant I’d not rest Still I extended him a welcome mat He sang as if to say, “Spring will arrive” I knew the jays and finches should come soon And then the frailest flowers would revive As if awakened by the robin’s tune In summer a full chorus will rehearse And in their glory, hopeful hearts immerse

Most people seem to like spring better than other seasons. In Florida, fall is very nice, but winter weather here is actually quite pleasant. Thanks for reading, Sunshine!

Beautiful sonnet Carolyn--sweet song of birds in symphony with spring. Enjoyed the tunes of joy in tenor of your words. I am saving this in my FAVES. I like the quote you posted at the top.

A splendid write, Carolyn! I think your robin may a be the same one who trills for me but he flew south to entertain you until he returns this spring - smart bird that flew south to get away from the cold and snow! A top winner for the contest, that's for sure! Bob

Oh what a blessing! Imagine that wild bird trusted you both enough to sit on your friends shoulder for awhile. Once as my daughter sat on her swing set when she was small a wild bird lit on her arm and stayed a few minute. She was very still until it flew away but she was so thrilled. This is lovely. Thans so much for sharing. God Bless, JB

Thank you for reading, Judy. When I was fishing 25 miles offshore, another boat approached and there was a little gold finch on board. It flew from the other boat to mine and stayed on my friend's shoulder until we were back at shore!
