Why I Am Who I Am

I'm thankful for my mom and dad, And the happy childhood that I had. We didn't have so many toys But there were lots of other joys. Dad was a farmer planting seeds, To provide us with our daily needs. Mom planted too, the seeds of love, Germinating from up above. She taught us how to love each other And have respect for one another. We've kept those feelings still today, Though childhood days are far away. We went to church and Sunday School Where we were taught the Golden Rule. So many times our mama cried, If we were bad or if we lied. She didn't teach without regard That growing up is truly hard. We loved her and wanted to be As gentle and as kind as she. My brothers never made me cry, The four of them older than I. My gentle dad taught them to be Protectors of my sis and me. A child who's raised with loving care Is a happy child beyond compare. She'll want to share the love she knew And teach it to her children too. What comes around will go around And other happy children found. And when a better world is had, It all started with my mom and dad. Won 2nd place
