Why do I write poetry? I am sure some people here wonder just why I do! For my poems were once described as ‘simple’ And to others they are a pile of old pooh I have learned so much since I started writing Now I am flying as free as a bird Despite the ups and downs in my recent life My poetic ‘voice’ will still be heard I started writing just two years ago Now I realise it was a form of stress relief Since joining soup I’m like a kid in a candy store A ‘pick n mix’ of poetry - I want to learn more and more I’ve discovered so many new styles, which one do I chose Limericks, haiku, rhyme, sonnets Fabulous fun footles Alliteration, Abecedarian Nonets, cinquain, couplets, to name just a few I can’t believe there are so many forms me to dip into Many poems have been written to express my emotions Some works are happy and some are extremely sad I have a vivid imagination so fiction writes flow from my pen I might throw a twist in the ending every now and then Lots are factual poems of things that have really happened to me An example of this is my run in with that pudding made of sticky toffee! I endeavour to try and entertain and amuse But some writes are penned with anger and frustration … When I’m about to blow a fuse! I relish the challenges set by the sponsors I’m more confident and spreading my wings I love the site of which I am a member To students at school the site’s praises I loudly sing But I don’t like the current undercurrent of bad feeling Now its no names on the poems you’ll see I’ve never liked names on the contests But others will strongly disagree Let sponsors judge the way they feel We ALL get high or low placements, but let's not make a big deal The most important thing is that my poems get read (But of course I like winning, I’m such a bighead) (joke) Some say my poems are simple Others may think they are a load of poop But let me SHOUT this loud and clear I won’t be leaving poetry soup! Now listen here, poetess ( I could use the latin term 'Poetria', but that sounds like something that needs a poultice putting on it), you are a poet, someone who has the git of poetic thought, imagination, creation and gift of expression. So there. There are some poets who follow classic style and form religiously, and fair play, but none of them have made me laugh. You do. Now shut up and get the kettle on. Viv x

So I have the 'git' lol but my heart has been torn out of the site Mr Viv. I will still write but these changes they are making and imposing are upsetting people and still they will not listen:-( Hugs Jan xx

I never wrote a poem since my childhood .. then my hubby got cancer and had surgery in 2013 now I have recently posted my 900th poem - my work is far from perfect gee I aspire to be able to write like Andrea and many others who inspire me and support me - BUT I am Jan I have my own style and like me or loathe me I am here to stay. Contests are a fun way to learn but recent changes and new ones if they are forced up on people will spoil the fun element for many:-( I am so so sad keith:-( hugs Jan xx
Date: 12/21/2015 1:51:00 PM
Jan I think the no name rule and the new placement protocol will not stop the favoritism...because the sponsors can easily circumvent the no name rule...Nicely penned ...hugs

You have hit the nail on the head - in my next contest I will be googling every poem and then deciding the winners she says tongue in cheek lol:-) My PM won't be renewed by I won't be leaving the site - do they have a new protocol re winners? :-) they still haven't officially told us about the no names just allowed a member to blab it on blogs and social media - that is the nail in the coffin regarding my PM decision!:-) hugs Jan x
Date: 12/21/2015 1:23:00 PM
Excellent Jan you are such a trooper, I've never needed a pooper scooper, after reading your work, so like Eileen says ignore the bullies, and enjoy, you are on your way to being an outstanding poet. By the way you might like my recent posting on cancer. Your story was my inspiration.

I will drop right by John I'm so glad I inspired you with my acrostic poem - without my husband's cancer I would never have started writing and believe writing poetry on soup and the support I have received from some lovely people all across the world has been a life saver to me :-) hugs Jan xx
