Why --- Because

Mommy, Jim, Bob, and the guys are going to climb Ole Rocky Ridge. Can I go too, Huh, please can I go. Please, pretty please! No, you can’t go. You know a boy was badly hurt up there last year. Come on, Mommy, all the guys are going. Why can’t I go? Because I said so. Daddy, will you give me enough money to buy some candy. No. You’ve spent your allowance this week, and that’s that. Well, if you don’t give me the money, I’ll just have to steal the candy. No, you can’t steal the candy. Why not. Because it’s wrong. Why? Because God says so. Pastor, why is the human race so apt to do terrible things? Well, do you remember the Bible story about the Garden of Eden? Yes, but what has that got to do with society in this day and time? Oh, but it has a lot to do with all of us today. Why? Because Adam and Eve messed up. Mom and Dad, we had a wonderful time at the class party last night. O, tell us about it! It was a swim party, but they forgot to heat the pool. Goodness, that must have been terrible. Did anyone go in for a swim? Yes, all the kids and chaperones jumped in with their clothes on. Why? Because why not? Professor, do you think that universes other than ours exist? Could be! I often ask myself. Is there life beyond planet Earth? And if so, could another universe exist with our laws of physics? It’s at times like this that I am inspired to continue. Why? Because we are here asking the questions. Mommy, why is the sky blue? Where did God come from? Where do babies come from? Hush, and go to sleep. Why? Because.
