My thoughts drift back to my childhood days Of so many years ago All the family gathered by a roaring fire Whilst outside glistens with sparkling snow We had such fun making snow angels and snowmen Our little frozen fingers and rosy faces were aglow Memories of Christmas now firmly in the past I look back on happy days of so long ago Our Christmas tree was draped with tiny twinkling lights, Bright baubles, tinsel and candy canes just for our delight Oh how the years have flown by so fast Sadly, like the snowflakes our childhood days don’t last I scan the list of Christmas cards that I’ve got to write Each year it grows shorter, with loved ones we now miss I dream of turning back the clock and returning to the past My memories of Christmas are ones I hope will always last Sponsor: Kelly Deschler Contest: Christmas Carols Song Chosen - White Christmas 12~03~15

I just love this one, Jan. Kudos on your first place win...well deserved. I wish I had enough computer savvy to liven up my work with pictures. A beautiful touch which added to this BIG 7 in my book.

Thanks Dan I was always adamant I wouldn't use images with my premium membership but I had to eat my words as sometimes the images can accompany your words so beautifully:-) hugs Jan xx

I so enjoyed Christmas when I was a child it was so much simpler then and we were so grateful for what little we received - oh how things have changed!:-( hugs jan xx

Thanks Keith - Christmas no longer holds the fascination it once did. The best gift I have ever received was for my husband to be cured of cancer - we buy gifts when we want them not because a certain day dictates and of course we miss those that are no longer with us:-( hugs Jan xx

I usually have a charlie brown Christmas, minus charlie brown and the scrawny tree.

Aww thanks my friend:-) We are having even more of a low key Christmas than ever I have no heart in it at all - I am putting up a tiny tree on the windowsill and the lights round the window but not the main tree - would only be 3 presents under it - we have mum and dad's bureau in the area where we usually have the tree :-( hugs Jan xx

Just a touching, nostalgic write. Now I feel melancholy. Your poem echos my feelings totally. The Christmases of our youth and those of our children's youth are priceless. As a Mother, the greatest gift would be if our sons feel as we do when they are our age. I am putting this in favorites ... CayCay

I have no heart for Christmas this year - the first one without dad - so it will be tough for mum and I don't think my son will be home he probably wants to stay at university and focus on his studies as he has major exams and assignments in January - I would put no pressure on him to come home he is very sensible :-) hugs Jan xx

Thanks Kim:-) Christmas will be tough for us all our first one without dad - I have little heart in in - my best Christmas gift was my hubby getting over his cancer surgery in 2013 - nothing can ever top that gift - the gift of life:-) hugs jan xx

I remember when Christmas was meant to celebrate joy, now it's just another day to sell something. We've made Christmas cold, and I'm not talking about the weather.

I cant agree with you more Frederic it is just a commercial exercise - we are not materialistic - I still haven't got my husband a birthday present from early November - we buy when we need something not because it is expected so I won't be stressing over Christmas gifts we will get something when we find something we want and need:-) hugs Jan xx
